The Maryland State Police have agreed to abolish their physical fitness requirements after settling a lawsuit brought by the Mamala Kamala Administration.

In the lawsuit, Mamala Kamala's Department of Justice said that the MSP Functional Fitness Assessment Test, which requires candidates for the position of State Trooper run a 15 minute mile, discriminated against women and the disabled. Cited as evidence, they noted that only 51% of females and the disabled were able to pass the test, while 95% of male candidates passed.

According to the Justice Department, if approved by a judge as required, the agreement to settle the allegations will then resolve a "civil pattern and practice" investigation which was opened July 2022 by DOJ's Civil Rights Division.
