Interesting, and seems plausible to me, saxi, given Old Joe's defiant and public pronouncements that he was NOT going to quit his re-election campaign. Several key Congressional Democrats went to see Biden and I had read reports as far back as Feb. 2024 that Obama did not think Biden's campaign was going to lead to success and re-election.

For starters, I'll admit I only read the first of your five links. I imagine the others say similar things; correct me if I'm wrong.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me. He took one for the team and removed himself because someone else would have a better chance of winning. Exactly. He thought of himself as a one-term president, and so did everybody else. At the last minute, hubris steered him wrong and he decided to try for a second term, which he never should have done. Thankfully, once enough voices were raised, they won out over hubris and got him to stand down.

That may be close to the truth. There was growing mass of Democrats seeing he needed to step down for the rest of the ticket. Invoking the cabinet to make him step down was probably considered.

Right now, it is happening for Trump but GOP leaders and major donors see Trump protected himself by naming Vance as VP.
