Are you going to say whether it's semi open?
Has there been a previous semi open game I can review rather than ask noobish questions?

Re: EW's Back to Basics or semi-open
(ˌsɛmɪˈəʊpən ) adjective. partially open. a semiopen game/election/adoption/valveLoose Canon wrote:Are you going to say whether it's semi open?

Noun
Semi-Open Game (plural Semi-Open Games)
Also a type of chess opening, in which White plays 1.e4 (moves their king's pawn to the fourth rank with their first move) and Black breaks symmetry by replying with a move other than 1...e5.
Knowing EW its partially a type of chess opening fun meme but partially a "semi-open" meaning a semi-closed game invite for others
because Semi open is just open, but with some restrictions..
So no, there has not been a previous semi open game you can review rather than ask noobish questions.. but not asking noobish questions is part of the semi-open state of mind you wanna have here

A semi-open setup is a setup in which some roles are "open", and some aren't.Loose Canon wrote:Are you going to say whether it's semi open?

In the setup we're likely to play, D6, I roll a six-sided die 6 times. See here for details: https://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=D6
Say I roll 1 3 3 5 6 4
1-3 means investigative roles. I rolled this 3 times, so town gets a Role Cop.
4-5 means protective roles. I rolled this 2 times, so town gets a Doctor.
6 means killing roles. I rolled this once, so town gets a Vigilante.
I do the same for mafia roles, where I roll a die equal to the amount of town power roles - 1. Each roll is a mafia power role.
So why is this called semi-open?
1) Say Mafia has no power roles. They know town only has 1 power role, and that this must be a cop.
2) Say you are a Town Jailkeeper. You know 4-5 was rolled 4 times, so town has either a 1-shot vig and an innocent child; or a role oracle and no killing role, or a 2-shot vigilante and no investigative role.
Both mafia and town are thus partially informed about the setup, and the setup becomes more known the more players are forced to claim or die.
I'm personally more fond of matrix setups, but couldn't find one with a reasonable player count that I also like.

In if you're still accepting applicants
Re: EW's Back to Basics or semi-open
So if you rolled 6 1s, you would get a cop who is informed a random player is town, and no mafia power roles?Extreme Ways wrote:A semi-open setup is a setup in which some roles are "open", and some aren't.Loose Canon wrote:Are you going to say whether it's semi open?

I'll send a PM out soon where people can vote between two setups, and start the game in about 48 hours.

Re: EW's Back to Basics or semi-open
EW we are 16 players, Loose and Traf have the same numbers. Maybe they want to share a seat?Extreme Ways wrote:My time to host, after having subbed, specced, and subbed out!
Depending on the amount of signups, I will be running a 15p mountainous (12 Vanilla Town, 3 Mafia Goon) or a semi-open setup which fits the playercount. Most likely Mafia will have 24/7 access to chat. I'm going to host things slightly different, so pay attention! In addition to the basic rules below, If no majority is reached at the end of the day, the player with the most votes is lynched instead. In the case of ties, a random player between the tied players will be eliminated.
Rules:Spoiler
1.The moderator is always right. Do not try and argue with them. However we are all human and we all make mistakes. The moderator will try and fix any mistake he or she may have made. 2. Do not edit/delete previous posts. Whatever you say goes into historical record. 3. Do not quote any PM's you receive from the moderator or another player. You may say your name, role, associated abilities. This is a serious offence and could earn you a mod-kill, and/or a blacklist from future games. 4. The game will not be discussed outside this thread, unless your role specifically says you can. 5. Lynch ‘votes’ and ‘unvotes’ must be in BOLD RED, If they are not, they will not be tallied. 6. Lynching requires a majority of the total votes, once the majority has been reached any unvotes will not be counted. The majority is half the players alive +1. 7. You may vote ‘no lynch’ to end the day without a death. 8. Lengths of days depend on moderators. Usually they are indefinite until the game starts dragging and then the moderator enforces a deadline. (I will implement a deadline if there is a lack of direction/deadlock). 9. Lengths of nights depend on moderator. Try and send the actions earlier if possible, and save everyone time. It's a hassle for the moderator to pm everyone who hasn't sent in an action. (Nights will last for 48 hours, regardless if you sent a night action or not). 10. Once your death scene has been posted, it's over for you. You can no longer post anything related to the game. Whining is alright, **Voices from beyond the grave** are alright, as long as nothing of substance is revealed. This means you can post something like "Damn you mafia!" or "Oh well. Go town!" but you cannot post and add to the discussion. This is a serious offence. 11. Be attentive and active in the game. You will be replaced if you don't post. If something prevents you to participate for a long period of time, announce it here or via PM. Help everyone's enjoyment of the game by being active and sending your actions promptly. (Given the small player count and lack of reserves, I may just end up modkilling if there is a lack of posting). 12. You cannot talk at night. 13. If you have any questions or doubts, send a private message to the moderator and ask for help. It would be much worse to remain unsure about your role, mafia rules, whatever than to ask the moderator and then understand. 14. This is the basic list of rules. Moderators will have their own specific changes or additions to rules. Make sure to check them. 15. Have fun!
Game will start once previous one ends.

Maybe Kong is of scandinavian origins, like here in Norway in Norwegian the word for king is kong, so our king is Kong HaraldCharle wrote:Amazing that King and Kong are always right after each other
