In a bid to ingratiate itself with Western leaders, Russia has sent troops into a breakaway region of Ukraine to defend the region's sovereignty and protect its people from central government reprisals (the Israel-Taiwan model of Western meddling).

This is a great move by Putin and actually will lead to peace.

There is no way the Donbas is ever going back to Ukraine. That's a simple fact of life. It will never happen.

Once we accept that, then all we're left with is an endless low intensity war that kills a few hundred people every year for no reason in small-scale skirmishes between Donbas separatists and Ukrainian forces.

With the Russian Army on the ground in the Donbas that low intensity war is now over. The Ukrainians aren't going to try to plow through Russian lines.

Literally nothing has changed with the Russian intervention except 600-700 people won't die this year, 600-700 people won't die next year, and 600-700 people won't die the year after. This is a Win-Win for everyone but Old Joe and Koko Harris. Anyone who isn't completely consumed by bloodlust should applaud President Putin's decision. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT PUTIN!

There still is a Ukrainian Army out there. 8 years to prepare and lots of defensive weapons. A reporter said last night the Ukrainian troops were no where near the boarder. I see civilians fleeing but not troops yet.
