Re: coronavirus - The Legacy
We have quite a percentage of the population crying out to be locked down, here in England. If you go off the public interviewed for TV you'd think the figure was around 90%, but I'd say 20%. After 8 months of being locked down over the space of 21 months it would seem some people have adapted and accepted whatever they're told to do and think, scary (probably all left wing wankers, so better off at home).
I have no interaction with the NHS myself, (although I did have 2 jabs and a booster. Simply because my choices in many areas would have been restricted without the so called vaccine passport), but it appears to have almost ceased the treatment of many illnesses and is hell bent on testing for covid to drive the numbers up so the media can use scaremongering with official stats to back them up.
There's just so much that doesn't quite add up or seem legit about it all.

Re: coronavirus - The Legacy
In Ruritania, in order to purchase merchandise, cross a toll bridge, access a hospital, or cross a border, you must show a mobile phone app with a single, switchable variable: Green (go), Red (no go). When you download the app, the icon is set to Red. To set it to Green -- to, therefore, access all the conveniences necessary to live in the modern world -- you must report to a local service center, establish your identity which is then matched to your app, and do 10 jumping jacks. Your app icon is then set to Green for six months, after which it will expire and you must - once again - report and do 10 jumping jacks. The jumping jack requirement is merely performative; a random action that provides an excuse to require in-person appearances without which the Ruritanian government wouldn't be able to unambiguously match an app to the person using it.The ram wrote:There's just so much that doesn't quite add up or seem legit about it all.
After a few years, the Ruritanian government announce a new initiative. They may remotely toggle apps to Red before the six month mark for people who have open arrest warrants. Now, wanted criminals will essentially be unable to live. The police won't need to hunt them down, the criminals will have no choice but to turn themselves in. Soon this is extended to non-criminal matters such as unpaid traffic fines. If you miss jury duty your app might be remotely toggled to Red. Debt collectors can also apply to have the variable toggled to Red until bills are paid-up. If the authorities needs to locate your precise location at any time of day, your phone can be pinged because no one can realistically travel very far away from their home without it. During periods of civil unrest, the government could auto-toggle the entire population's apps to Red for a few days to relieve security forces from routine policing so they could be concentrated against protesters.
---
Back in the real world, making people appear every six months to do jumping jacks is too abstract. There would be a backlash that would prevent such a system being implemented.
A more believable requirement matched to some real-world need would have to be imagined, such as a vaccine against a never-ending disease. But unlike prior classes of vaccine, like the Hep B vaccine or the Smallpox vaccine which offer decades of protection, this vaccine would "time-out" every 120 days. Every 120 days it would suddenly become ineffective, excusing the requirement that you report for a "top up." If you didn't, your app toggles to Red. The vaccine itself is probably perfectly safe. It could just be saline for all anyone cares. Like the jumping jacks, it's a harmless, performative smokescreen to justify the movement permission app.

Re: coronavirus - The Legacy
It seems that in saxi's "thorough" discussion of vaccines, our resident CC "expert" on such matters forgot about:
1) the flu (influenza) vaccine offered annually;
2) the pneumonia (Pneumococcal) vaccine also offered annually.
3) there may be other such vaccines, but none come to me at this moment. I do not claim special knowledge of such matters.
Very early in the lockdown (April or May of 2020) I told others that COVID is like a very bad flu: respiratory, mutating, and causes many to become seriously ill (and requires hospitalization) and causes death, too.
Now I did not expect the death toll to reach over 800,000 by this time some 18 months later. (For comparison, the annual deaths due to the flu has varied from 30-65 K, based on what I recall when I researched this number many months ago.) Some will argue that the COVID death count is inflated; perhaps this is. However, I think my overall assessment that COVID is like a very bad flu is essentially correct.
saxi's previous post is another example of the obfuscation offered to annoy us.

Yeah, those flu vax mandates are pretty widespread.

Biden Officially Gives Up - Passes the Buck
He's had enough of this COVID-19 shit and is moving on to something else. Let the governors sort it out. "Call me when it's over, governors. Or don't. I don't care."Speaking just before a meeting with some of the nation’s governors, Biden said “there is no federal solution. This gets solved at a state level.”

Some are hellbent on sabotaging his efforts. Surely you will admit if you oppose mandates, and oppose a vaccine by choice, you cannot as the virus worsens also criticise him for not wanting to set troops on you. I'm 99% sure there's a rather wide range of options between "just abandon things and move on" and "set troops on you." There is an obvious competence gap with the Regime. Re: coronavirus - The Legacy
You could summarise what I wrote as it relates to yourself as an accusation that because you insist on making shared priorities a partisan issue, and of course it is not just you, the subsequent delayed response is fatal, and you can blame your president but it rings worse than hollow. Hostile countries can marvel at American stupidity, the intensity of partisan immolation goes far beyond truthful democracy, Xi just loves you. (For balance I will acknowledge only passing exposure to American media but I have the impression CNN is not much better at neutral reporting than Fox - still Tucker Carlson is in a league of his own with that shit.)saxitoxin wrote: I'm 99% sure there's a rather wide range of options between "just abandon things and move on" and "set troops on you."
Applying similar logic to what you wrote, I'm 99% sure there is a rather wide range of options between “there is no federal solution. This gets solved at a state level” and "Call me when it's over, governors. Or don't. I don't care." Perhaps you've made a start, acknowledging a range of options, and a few years from now you'll realise this wasn't your proudest moment.

LOL - update ... 20 minutes after announcing there is no solution to the pandemic, Biden just helicoptered to one of his palaces. He'll be spending the rest of the week on a previously unannounced holiday at his waterfront property on Rehoboth Beach.
Good luck everyone! You're on your own!

LOL -- this gets even better!
Right after declaring there is no solution to the pandemic, here's His Fraudulency (a) improperly wearing a mask set beneath his nose in violation of CDC guidance, (b) falsely lying that "there were no complaints" about the 2,500 canceled flights over XMas, (c) thinking "f*ck it" and helicoptering to his beachfront palace for a week post-XMas holiday.
Where Biden will be spending the next week:

The newest variant is a warning about what will continue to happen “unless we really get serious about the endgame,” said Dr. Albert Ko, an infectious disease specialist at the Yale School of Public Health.
“Certainly COVID will be with us forever,” Ko added. “We’re never going to be able to eradicate or eliminate COVID, so we have to identify our goals.”
At some point, the World Health Organization will determine when enough countries have tamped down their COVID-19 cases sufficiently — or at least, hospitalizations and deaths — to declare the pandemic officially over. Exactly what that threshold will be isn’t clear.

Stephen Kissler of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He defines the endemic period as reaching “some sort of acceptable steady state” to deal with COVID-19.
The omicron crisis shows we’re not there yet but “I do think we will reach a point where SARS-CoV-2 is endemic much like flu is endemic,” he said.
For comparison, COVID-19 has killed more than 800,000 Americans in two years while flu typically kills between 12,000 and 52,000 a year.
Exactly how much continuing COVID-19 illness and death the world will put up with is largely a social question, not a scientific one.
“We’re not going to get to a point where it’s 2019 again,” said Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. “We’ve got to get people to think about risk tolerance.”

Some, like saxi, want a vaccine that is both 100% effective and 100% safe. Neither will occur on its own, much less together.“We’ve got to get people to think about risk tolerance.”
It is more danger to drive a car on an interstate (high speed) road in the USA than getting the COVID vaccine. If I recall the stats correctly, a gun in the home is more likely to be used to commit suicide than to protect the home owner from a robbery or crime. Death by suicide is way too high and gun is often used by a male in the USA to do the deed.
Among many examples, I am reminded of the death of Ernest Hemingway:

Biden one year ago: "I'm going to shut down the virus."
One year later: There are so many cases in the U.S. that the map is broken.
It's funny that the cases are most out of control in highly vaxed North America and Europe, and lowest in low-vaxed Africa. No explanation, of course.

That statistic is explained by countries testing the asymptomatic and extrapolating. The rates of intensive care treatment and death are far more reliable and you know about those.
Call your local hospital and ask if that's correct.
