persistent setting to disable global chat on home page

Not everyone appreciates the unfiltered venting on Global Chat. Although it is possible to close that sidebar, it has to be, and re-done, and done again, every single time the window is opened or returned to from a game, etc. Please create a persistent option to disable Global Chat. Possible suggestions: a check box directly on the home screen; option in personal settings.

This would benefit the entire community by not continually exposing us to the verbal diarrhea of a limited number of trolling flamers. Not to mention retaining new members who are currently alienated and driven off to other sites.
