Everyone has a family tree. I am representing to the Conquer Risk Brotherhood that I could forge an alliance with Ancestry.ca to turn their clients family trees into a game. The attached file is an early prototype of the board and game play. I need help to forge this into a beta game so that it can be field tested.
If successful, the valuable skills that exist within this community can be leveraged for more than just self-play.
Anyone interested in working with me to turn my prototype into a forged beta game? If so, I would begin the dialogue with ancestry. Perhaps Cartographers, like Ian, can express and "Executive" perspective on this idea.
With respect and curiosity.

Re: Making the Foundry a Profit Center
Many images of deceased people like Winston Churchill are in the public domain. Photos of living family members...likely not. CC would need to have each one's permission. Though possible...I think it's best to shy away from.
Re: Making the Foundry a Profit Center
Really good point. Important to rnsure no legal liability for CC. My idea would entail opted in permission since it would originate from ancestry.ca. Money would be changing hands and contractual language would be involved. Not all people would have photos on the site already so others would be provided manually. So opt in permission is reasonable to ask for and receive. I suppose the originating family member would need to contact relevant other family members and represent that permission was granted. If this is a practical nightmare then the idea falls apart. I welcome other perspectives and perhaps creative solutions.
Re: Making the Foundry a Profit Center
We might be looking for a family tree map. The Royal Family is the best that comes to mind. Not very exciting though. Henry the 8th had lots of wives but not lots of children. For that, you need to look at another King.
The top hit on the internet was Larry King - married 8 times.
https://people.com/tv/larry-king-wives- ... a-history/
His life was filled with 8 marriages, 7 divorces, 1 adoption, 5 children and the occasional baseball coach affair. A lot going on there.

Re: Making the Foundry a Profit Center
CC doesn’t have a family tree. The most famous is the Royal Family. Henry the VIII might be the second.
Re: Making the Foundry a Profit Center
we currently have one family tree map, poison rome, so we know this concept works.
https://www.conquerclub.com/static/maps ... Rome.S.jpg
an advantage of poison rome is that every single person on the map has been dead for thousands of years, so there are no copyright or privacy issues.
before u go any further with the idea of asking living people to use their family trees, u need to display map versions in ur posts.
u can do this by uploading each map version to an image hosting service such as imgur or flickr, after which u can embed the image url in posts.

Look on flicker and see if a link ending in PNG is an option. Then place it in Img.raygo wrote:here is the map image for all to review. thanks for advice.

Try this. I think I cut off some of the URL earlier. My mistake. Sorry.

The link is working but the map needs to display without clicking.

click on ur flickr link, then click on the image itself. in the bottom right of the screen, u'll see a curved arrow which represents the share photo command.
click the arrow, then select the BBCode menu. choose the image size to share: i suggest either 800 x 450, which is within the large image guideline, or 1024 x 576, which must be cut down later.
one part of the image code starts with [img and ends with /img]. copy this code into ur forum post. when u hit the preview or submit button, u'll see the image embedded into it.

Re: Making the Foundry a Profit Center
1. I finished my Family Risk Board. We will play it together over Christmas in the analog world. Would still love to play in the digital world if it were possible to gain entry to the Foundry at some point. Would also love any feedback from the community. I have faith in the gameplay, but ideas are always welcomed.
2. I could not exactly find the [img and ends with /img] within flickr. And the large size dimensions are slightly different than you indicated. I have included below the best I can do. Hopefully you can see the image of the Family Risk Board from this.

Re: Making the Foundry a Profit Center
you are far, far, far away from map foundry. I mean put some people pictures over Continental regions? I mean its these need to be something original??? You need to have some stories behind your idea to present.
For me its will have more sense to put ancient tribes regions and there names instead families tree who again on your picture dont make any sense at all( i mean chloe Japan>>emma Siberia???)

Re: Making the Foundry a Profit Center
I completely understand and agree with your comment, as it applies to "traditional" game play among unrelated players. My intent is different. Think of it as a "private game only" among family members where the names DO have meaning, including assignments to Siberia, adjacencies, etc. I would not expect any random person to care or understand.
However, I have been playing dozens of private family games with traditional formats very successfully. This personalized gameboard would offer a new twist which is sure to engage my intended audience.
Since foundry efforts are labour intensive (notwithstanding the earlier attempt at an auto-building link), I do understand that donated labour to a "small group cause" is asking too much. However, as a prototype, everyone could possibly forge a family Risk board and expand the audience beyond the current base.
Failing online engagement, we will certainly enjoy our cardboard game over Christmas.
Thanks for engaging the idea. It is much appreciated.

Re: Making the Foundry a Profit Center
good luck with ur game over christmas!
it will not be accepted by the foundry in this form because the graphics must be ur own work and not partly a photo of a commercial board. the site is very careful about not infringing copyright.
i've replaced the img tags with bigimg tags for better readability.
