And I'd prefer the opposite...battle for control of heaven, battle for control of hell. Heaven vs. hell would be a decent compromise, but I guess I'd be disappointed. Well, I'd just like to see something mythological/theological created. Like you, anything I can do to help...

Rather than Earth, why not purgatory?
Also, I think that the hell described in the Aeneid would make an interesting map for hell. Cerberus, anyone? (Pardon me if it's the same as Dante's; I haven't read The Divine Comedy yet.

thegeneralpublic wrote:Maybe I missed this; is there a reason the European countries can't attack each other?
The way this map is going to be is everyone is only starting with one territory and the rest are neutral.
With only 7 potential start locations it would be very bad if the European Countries attacked each other right away. The Lakota and Aztecs are far enough appart that they don't have the same problem.
So in order to take out your opponents European countries you need to go through the New World and then go back through their port.
My biggest problem after I finally get my basic layout down is making sure things are balanced. If the odds of any one start location winning are significantly higher then the others or vice versa I will have to change things.
Warning: You may be reading a really old topic.

Quite true. This is my 1035th post. How random was that?

Will it have heaven and purgatory too, then, like the Divine Comedy?

The Old World
Description: A map of the old world, circa Roman/Han/Mauryan times, spanninf the eurasian landmass. Apart from the empires there would be a region where russia is now that are barbarian lands(Steppe Raiders and such)
Why? : apart from the great historical signifigance, it would be a great gameplay map with tons of potential depending on the vision of the cartographer. A very adaptable concept as it could be many different sizes.
this is the image I drew inspiration from, but my lack cartography skills and decent imaging program left me unable to evn come up with a draft. Africa and southeast asia would not necessarily be included in the map, but sea routes on the indian ocean are a possibilty

CAUCASUS
Caucasus
Hello everybody,
I would love to see a Caucasus map on here: one of the most interesting regions in the world, for more than one reason, and a region I have a special relation with.
One problem: I have neither the skill nor the time to make a good looking map and lead it all the way through the foundry process.
Is there anyone here that would like to take my ideas further?
After seeing abandoned posts about Armenia, Chechnya and Caspian Sea I got the following ideas:
- portions of Russia, Turkey and Iran on the sides, with country bonuses
- Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia in the centre, with country bonuses
- Azerbaijan and Armenia are both only complete with Karabakh
- Kurdistan, Greater Armenia and Greater Azerbaijan bonuses (overlap with Turkey, Iran and each other)
- independence bonus for Chechnya
- unification bonus for N and S Osetia
- Russia influence bonus for Abkhazia
- oil bonuses for Baku and the BTC pipeline
Below the provisionary map I have produced:

I hope to hear from someone, and see this map on CC in the future!

Sudoku
Sudoku
I think we need another "puzzle" map as Crossword is the only one we currently have so I came up with a Sudoku map. Currently there is only one version, but if this idea is liked I'll adjust it to another size as well (after it develops further).
Version 3
Version 2
Version 1
There are 48 squares, which are this game's countries. Each larger square is a continent (box), but, because not every square is playable, only the colored squares count toward boxes. Since there are 48 squares:
The bonuses are currently rough and probably need reworking.
The actual Sudoku puzzle should be solvable and is based on this puzzle, but adjusted for playability on Conquer Club.

POLL 1: How should the squares be labelled? This is for use on distinguishing which square is which for deployment, attacking, and fortification.
This poll will last 10 days as of June 21, 2007.
The color and a letter. 66% [ 12 ]
The color and the square's number in the puzzle's answer. 22% [ 4 ]
The color and a separate numbering sequence. 11% [ 2 ]
Other (please specify in a post or this vote doesn't count). 0% [ 0 ]

don't worry about Gilligan. he's probably just keeping you aware
your version is smarter because like you said, not as wide open. also, with no updates in about 2 months, I say that mapmaker doesn't have a hold onto the idea if you wanted to grab hold of it. Or, if he does come back, he can use your layout ideas to greatly improve his map. Maybe you should send him a PM to see if you guys can coordinate on it?
to be honest, I don't think I'd play it much, just because I prefer maps of real areas in the world, but if you get the graphics going, you might have something some people will like.

Alright, I'll send him a PM soon.

Yeah, I didn't want to spend hours on making it look good if the concept as a whole was going to be rejected.

I decided to work on the graphics a bit. I changed the title font, added the Japanese characters for Sudoku (according to Wikipedia) for decoration, and added a "wood" background to be more decorative. I also did shadows for the board and the key.
Is there any good free font that I could use that look less plain with the numbers?

THe only thing that I can say is that you should make the bonuses so that if you hold a whole colum you get a certain amount. If you hold a line you should get a bonus. If you hold a box you should get a bonus. You could put up 3 different charts as the keys and have one showing all the bonuses for the boxes. One showing all the colum bonuses and one with the lines. Other than that I love the idea of making it less open with the blockers. I also dont think that you should be able to attack diagnoly. I love how this map looks so far though
Like it
Great start....I think you should incorporate Some how THe Colume and Row Bonus .... But Did you think about Having the numbered squares as connections.... Like all the 3's are adjacent to each other.. or even one way attacks like 4's to 5's ,9's to 1's...Might throw an interesting twist... you would have to ADD small Little Numbers..... that show which side or corner that the numbered boxes connect to...What do you think

But that could quickly become complicated because there's different amounts of squares in every column and row. Each would have to have individually set bonuses, which could lead to far too many bonuses overall. And since there are blocked squares, you couldn't easily take a row/column "region."

That's what it is now, see the key on the side.

I'd have to rework the entire map if I did that because some boxes would become isolated. The point of blocked-off squares is so that there aren't complex rules.

Then you'd have to defend every square as they'd all be open to attack. No one would be able to hold a bonus.

ok fair enough about the diagnol. I still think that you should get bonuses for colums and rows though. It wouldnt get complicated as it would look something like this:

with the bonuses in the respective areas.
