It's the Malamutes that can't adjust to the heat. Huskies do fine. With Mrs Quirk having health issues, we run the AC pretty low in the summer.

My wife is always worried in summer I'm going to cook our canines in the car. When I was young I hardly knew anyone with air conditioning in a car. I'm not a monster, I know you have to be careful and not leave them parked with the windows closed but I'm pretty sure they can ride around with me.

If you just tie them to the roof you maximize their airflow.

I have known several LDS folks. I'm not aware of any driving around with dogs on the roof of their car. Then again I never met Mennonites that lived in colonies either. The world is a funny place.
