Let's talk Harvey
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-51624248
There are no universally good or bad people. Universal good or bad actions do not exist either. Life is complex to say the least and people in situations own a percentage of guilt
With that said, I do believe Harvey Weinstein should have been found criminally guilty to a lesser degree and been sued the s4it out of civilly in court
I'll try to be as succinct as possible before the village idiots come band together as a torch mob
Did Harvey use his power in Hollywood to abuse women: Yes
Did Harvey's behavior escalate because power corrupts and money corrupts: Yes
Did these women engage in these situations and behaviors with knowledge of who he was as an animal with a reputation: Almost all of them
Did some of these women continue to come back for an exchange of this for that: Yes
Did this make these women willing participants: Gray area which is why most deserve money
Does this pattern of behavior, at a greater or lesser degree within most industries: Yes
So, while we point out fingers at the monster of Harvey, his behavior was progressive which is why many of these stories seem so out of line and gut wrenching.
At the same time, why didn't these women walk away or choose to associate with him when he had this reputation? They could have stood up for their woman-kind at any point.
I give Harvey 75% guilt. He is no Jeff Epstein, Michael Jackson, a murderer, or Bernie Madoff. With that said, he had the potential to be as absolute power corrupts absolutely. When you have money on that level, you seem excitement through deviancy disguised as novelty. This is no excuse for his behavior but, many of those women who are victims have a percentage of guilt which I place at 25%
This is why I think Harvey should pay all of these women out, there should be greater oversight within these industries (bounties for whistle blowers), and perhaps new laws which would assign guilt to those who knew what was happening and did noy report it. Save Harvey and these women from themselves
This is a prime example of being in a position of power and engaging in a, "this for that" transaction. Both parties played the game.
With that said, I'm speaking in generalities so when you spend your time finding exceptions to what I've said, I agree, which is why there should obviously be an element of a guilty criminal conviction

He was convicted of rape, not japes and capers.

I'm just mindblown that we have a WMW post that's almost completely coherent. Not worried about the content or the import of it. I'm just so intensely grateful that it's readable and not gibberish.
Oh frabjous day!

He isn't a victim
Society could have saved others from a lot of pain if only those women who were initially abused had come forward and been heros for the women that followed.
What better way to correct the problem of power then to take his status within the industry away and take all his money civilly?
He received a lot of years based on society not intervening earlier. This means more tax payer dollars being spent on imprisonment, more pain for women who entered his life later, and he can't contribute his tax dollars to society now
There are no winners in this scenario
There is a lot of injustice and loss in this case that could have been prevented if people had only done the right thing earlier on

Harvey Weinstein is a product of the industry
There are always Harveys around which are basically, Sith
We need more Jedis in the industry. Women need to stop watering the tree of future sexual crime as they try to pick career fruit
He had a reputation and maybe this heros should have done something earlier to save the future tree climbers
That's my I'm just saying post

Yeah you're right, it's the rape victims' faults that Harvey Weinstein got away with raping women as long as he did. No one else among the hundreds of people he worked with who were well aware of his behaviour, or among the wide range of powerful people in Hollywood well aware of the 'casting couch' culture yet doing nothing to challenge it, had the same level of duty to take action as the women who would only have had to expose a humiliating experience inflicted on them to the global media and then accept Weinstein destroying their career in retaliation.

Extremism. You're using the sword of extremism to invalidate my point.
If you we're an educated, honest individual, you'd realize that it's common in law was well as, mediation to assign percentage of the blame as we are emotional creatures.
So when I say that Selma Hyek isn't a hero, I mean it. See something, say something. This is called gross negligence on the part of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Career Women.
I stand by my statement, Harvey is a predator. I would make the same case for people not reporting Jack the Ripper as he continued to murder. I would make the same case against the Jackson Family who knew of Michael's predatory inclinations.
The problem is accountability and reporting people. This is the problem because, within a problem there is a solution.

I mean you literally started this thread and have continued to post in it purely because you want to push your point that 'Harvey's bad but it's also the fault of the women he attacked'.

Explain to me the definition of literally
Then show me with certainty that I literally did something with proof
Then I'll say, no I didn't
And then we'll all have grown, Mr. Sucks wittle d1(&$ kneeling
But only the wittle ones!

You used the wrong form of "were" when telling mrswdk to be more educated.
Also, what do you think happened to Rose McGowan's career?
