With the current Coronavirus crisis ongoing, I thought it might be interesting to know where it originated. Note that it was designed to be used in a vaccine.

Coronaviruses were first discovered in the 1960s from the nasal cavities of patients with the common cold. These viruses were subsequently named human coronavirus 229E and human coronavirus OC43.[4] Two further members of this family have been identified (HCoV NL63 in 2004 and HKU1 in 2005) and they have been involved in more serious respiratory tract infections. On December 31 2019, a new strain of this virus was reported in Wuhan, China.[5] As of January 2020, deaths caused by the new strain of virus in China have risen to 17, with more than 540 cases confirmed. It is suspected to have originated from snakes.[6]
