Re: Facebook Has Crossed The Line
I feel the sudden urge to mine gold for Sumerians.
Re: Facebook Has Crossed The Line
Oh, ok, I get it.
The spots on your Morgans are not milk spots.
There is no annealing of circulation coins.
Milk spots are found on bullion coins.
What your seeing is most likely tarnish, tarnish can create a few dif colors or tones and spots.
Who knows what was on fingers that touched the coin?
We used to say oil.
There is some bs about a "rainbow" hue on a coin that makes it more valueable etc.
Pure bs for a collector that knows anything.
Not that some people wouldnt think a rainbow on their coin isnt pretty. some people do.
Thing is, it seems that collectors have forgotten what numismatics is about.
Really, you should think about the grading of whoever it is thats giving you info.
No offence.
Today people dont understand what their currency is telling them,
as I posted, a pre 1920 canadian coin was sterling, .925 silver,
after 1920 .800
silver thats a devaluation,
first half of 1968 was .800 silver, 2nd half was .500 silver,
another devaluation(a 50% devaluation) thats huge.
In 1969 they moved to a copper nickel alloy.
Another devaluation.
Today, our currency isnt worth crap except to collectors that think it is.
Limited mintings can fetch high prices, but there is no intrinsic value.
Our currency used to have intrinsic value.
People dont even understand what that is today.
Mints today simply pump out what they think people will pay exorbitant prices for....and they're right, people do pay it.
Numismatics is the study of coins, tokens, paper money (folding money) and related objects, it is also part of the history of the nation.
Seems even the mint employees dont understand that today.
The time could come when only archaeologists understand numismatics.
In any case, if you've got "spots" on coins try cleaning the way I posted.
I dont think a milk spot would come off bullion, its already been annealed, ya never know I guess.
There is no need to weigh my coins, they say what they are right on them.
This is something your grading people coin experts should know. lol
Try asking if they know the silver content without weighing.
Just for fun.
for every 5 cents there is 1 gram of silver. a quarter is 5 grams etc
pre 1920 canadian silver is sterling, after 1920 is .800.
american silver coins are .900 ( but there is lots I dont know about american coins so the purity may change in some dates)
And Happy New Year, may your collection expand in 2019.

Re: Facebook Has Crossed The Line
I have only ever see Canadian maples with milk spots.
Re: Facebook Has Crossed The Line
How much Perth mint product have you seen red?
I'm lucky, no milk spots here. They just freak me out so much because I don't know why they happen, so I can't just confidently take measures to avoid them.
It makes me reluctant to buy maple leafs since some claim it is a RCM caused problem. Maybe you're right. They come encapsulated so they are not handled and avoid most problems caused by people with dirty hands/acidic sweat.
You missed the video of the guy weighing two rolls of junk silver. I put it in a spoiler tag maybe that was why. He wanted to see more accurately what he received after buying junk silver online in a face value batch, versus coins he cherry picked at his friends shop. Surprisingly the online batch in the video from http://www.apmex.com was better. Typically junk bought online will live up to the label.
Some larger batch buy and sell transactions for melt value are based on actual weight instead of face value since that more accurately tells how much silver you have.
I have one coin I don't even know what it is. I believe it is a Canadian dime but it is too worn out for me to tell, it obviously weighs less than any fairly nice dimes that I received in a small batch $1 face value of junk silver I bought.
Boiling a silver coin touching aluminum removes corroded silver. The salt or baking soda is the catalyst. I'm not into removing silver from my silver coins.

There's milk spots on my kitchen floor.

I have only found milk spots on Canadian Maples.
My Perth holdings are
2014 1 oz croc.
2014 1 oz kookaburra
2014 1 oz koala
2014 1 oz with kangaroos
2014 2 oz Year of the Horse (holder is cracked)
Re: Facebook Has Crossed The Line
I have only seen the milk spots in videos with people bitching about the Perth mint.
How does your croc look? My son's has something minor going on but it was not in a holder until he got it. I might look for a nicer one and buy it then he can sell the one he has before it gets too gnarley. Otherwise hopefully it turns into a nice patina the collectors like.
I don't know how it would grade but my koala looks perfect to me. It's in a capsule though so in theory it should be a 70. I suspect it would only get 69 though. No point spending thirty US dollars to get it graded so it can still be worth slightly over spot value.
Anyone have anything from SMI? I don't even know where they are but they make a cool buffalo nickel style 1oz round.

All the above are mint. Thankfully the cracked plastic hasn't oxidized along the break.
My rarest modern coin is the 2010 5 Ounce Irbis from Central Asia. Real monster of a coin. Only 1,000 made. Rarity index is 97 out of 100.

Re: Facebook Has Crossed The Line
PCGS grading is $30US per coin and I'm not sure if membership is extra or not.
I might buy a maple but honestly, I already have two too many over priced coins after my spending spree last weekend no kangaroo yet... Now I'm looking at all sorts of expensive rounds and coins I should avoid.
Hopefully I come to my senses and go back to collecting something slightly nicer but similarly priced to my buffalo nickels with the dates worn off.
I know you don't seem to believe me, but a PCGS or possibly NGC grade is definately required to sell a penny, nickel, dime or quarter for $2000. Otherwise a guy at the auction house will probably say, "It doesn't look like an MS69 to me."
Is it a racket? Yes.
Would I pay it? Sometimes. It's no worse than getting hosed because there is a marsupial on a shiny new dollar coin.

I should probably grab one of these.

I would have if I had got in while silver was on the way down or had a bigger luxury budget.
Dag blamit Red. I want kovine now. They're more expensive than Clock Radio. You know, I can't afford.

Re: Facebook Has Crossed The Line
I got a ban on Facebook yesterday for a post from 2013. A friend of mine was going on holiday to Tunisia and I commented that he was only going because he likes Arab cock up his bum. Blokes my age often call each other gays in joke.

armati wrote:Another possibility as to why gold is so popular is that when the aliens arrived in Sumer they adjusted human dna to value gold so that humans would mine it for them.
I believe it was the opposite. Since gold is one of the few metals that can clog a Cyberman's breathing apparatus, it was used as an effective weapon in bronze age battles against them. The genetic memory of the ancient war against the natives of Mondas still lives on in the unconscious mind.

Re: Facebook Has Crossed The Line
ok, but there is a dif between the 2 stories.
The cuneiforms are actual tablets made a few thousand years ago.
Another neat thing about them, they are our first beer recipe.
They were right about that.
Among other things. lol
We still have to keep pretty much everything about them secret tho, so dont tell anyone.

Did armati die? There was a guy selling sunshine mint rounds and bars on kajiji for $19/oz, I missed them. Dang.
I finally got a kangaroo any guess what's on it?

Re: Facebook Has Crossed The Line
Just saw the Rwanda Nautical silver ounce coins. Nice.
Re: Facebook Has Crossed The Line
That does sound cool.
I have noticed that 1 oz coins and rounds here have gone up quite a bit more than silver spot recently. The mint coin pricess are a bit obscene in my opinion. Even bars and old circulated coins are selling for a rather large mark up.
I will have to pause on buying of course. Now that I like the coins, I might need to get a nice wheel barrel to go out and collect the silver if it starts getting thrown in the streets during a financial event.
In India they have shut down the Internet a couple of times to prevent protesting. I presume that included Facebook crossing the line there too.
Might be a good time to plant some beets and carrots near that picnic table Red.

Facebook is apparently using the far left wing "fact checker" Politifact. They wanted to remind me that an old post I made about the Clinton body count is clearly false because no evidence has been found (because everyone who had that evidence was killed by the Clintons, duh). It's nice to see they are so vigilant about a post i made THREE YEARS AGO.
