Microsoft handed the NSA access to encrypted messages

The company worked with the FBI this year to allow the NSA easier access via Prism to its cloud storage service SkyDrive, which now has more than 250 million users worldwide.

Paedophile Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has been jailed for 35 years after admitting to 13 sex offences, with two female accomplices given 14 years and 16 years respectively

Watkins, of Pontypridd, South Wales, tried to cover his tracks by using off-site "cloud" storage - he also used passwords including one: "If***kids".

I had an external like yours I used for years, then got paranoid so got a new one. It failed after 6 months and I lost everything. The bonus was my hard drive failed just before that and I discovered the external had failed when I tried to download to my new computer

My brother retired from running a company that provided backup services to massive companies....if you wish I can ask him for input and PM you....

I use cloud storage for some stuff but only use it for non-sensitive files. That's because my Dropbox account is linked to my phone so, if I were to lose my phone and someone were to crack the password prior to my noticing it was missing and therefore changing the login, they would have access to everything.

So files that I wouldn't want anyone in the world to see I put on my hard drive and backup through Carbonite (which I guess is technically the cloud but it's not linked to any device other than my PC).

But I want to store these on an external hard drive that never leaves my place instead of my laptop (in case I lose my laptop). This site - https://academy.getjobber.com/resources ... -and-usbs/ - says external drives have a failure rate of 7% over two years and 12% after three years. While I back stuff up it's also very inconvenient to have a failure. So my thought is I'll get an external drive - as nietzsche recommended - but then replace it every two years to keep my potential inconvenience rate below 10%.

Ask your brother and see if he concurs with nietzsche.

Do NOT send your snuff film emails from a private server Saxi, those should always be sent on your secure Russian gov't servers. #memberhillary?

Also, if you are super scared about loss from a external hard drive use two and have the both backup/save the same data. When one fails replace it, barring a natural disaster (your house floods/burns down) you shouldn't expect both to ever fail at the same time.

Also from what I've read pCloud is among the most secure Cloud storage options, though it doesn't sound like your worried about someone breaking in to the cloud, as much as you are having your laptop itself stolen and the cloud being accessed that way.

Going offline is still the most secure option. Maybe instead of storing all your filth in electronic format, you should try simply drawing your favourite films and stashing the paper drawings somewhere safe (e.g. a carrier bag hidden in the local woods)?

Why do you guys assume the only thing I have to keep private is porn? Maybe I have creative writing or something.

Creative writing doesn't need to be hidden from the government.

I suspect it's not porn you're hiding, though. I suspect it's a record of your paycheques from Putin.

Duk just burns all his CIA payslips. Most effective way of hiding them, although it means when they screw him on his pension he’ll have no proof of employment.

How do you draw a fart? Mine are completely invisible. Sadly, not always inaudible, but invisible for sure.

Lol...i assumed it was sensitive work or financial files. I have 20 years of financial and tax records for all the returns I do plus 25 years of customers, vendors, credit card info, etc for my biz.

Suspicious bastards

Asking my bro, manno....

PS...gonna ask if I'm being naive or you're being overly paranoid. All my various cloud shit (like 15 accounts) are "tied" to my phone. But to get into my phone requires a fingerprint or a ridiculous code, and even then, to access cloud shit, it again requires a fingerprint, a pin or a password or a combo, so. Your thots on that?

Lastly, I'd buy a new external every year...maybe two, if that is your solution. I'd also have the best fireproof safe I could get for my external drive, cause...fire.

they can hack the cloud service servers. you'd think that containing private info from so many people they'd never be hacked, but they are, quite often.

In a nutshell, bro said get 2 externals and alternate days using them. Odds are both won't fail at once....

You need to decide how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go...it is essentallly bottomless

Yeah, like someone said, the only perfect security system is one that can't be entered by anyone -- not even the owner.

There's always trade-offs to be made between security and convenience.

It should be obvious he's trolling to attempt to get bogus answers to laugh at. He's probably been running a rack of external back up for over 30 years.

He is probably bummed at the lack of fish in his net.
