Advice for dealing with game-ruiners

Post by Metrik »

I am not sure how to even phrase this, or whether any advice is even possible. But I have a growing frustration with players who just clearly spoil games.

Is it just me, or do most games with 4p or more seem to be decided by poor players who recklessly take both themselves and others out of contention? Time and time again, I will see someone hitting the weaker of two opponents to the point of ensuring a win for the one who is already ahead.

This isn't merely about games it has cost me... I have won my fair share in this way too. It takes away from it.

I am just curious if anyone has found a good way to avoid this frustrating phenomenon.

I usually find the Foe button is the best way to go here. If you don't want them to join your games, or if you need a reminder not to join theirs, then use the foe button.

Also works for forum trolls!

you need to include this as another variable in the game..

if you've played them before and know they do that kind of thing be prepared, even try to provoke it in a way that it plays in your favour. if you haven't played with them before you can take a quick look at rating, wall posts, score, etc. and get an idea of what he could do in given situations.

for example, if they're usually going for a kill even if it's an impossible shot, make it more impossible, never get too weak if you're close to them and try they do it against someone else so you get the spoils by weakening other players a bit or helping them kill a territory unreachable to them.. if they're bonus monkeys, get out of the territory you anticipate they will try to take, don't waste deployments there.. if they're easily scared, don't crowd them.. if they usually suicide on someone when they're bored, get on their good side so they do this against others and not you.. stuff like that.

you are already doing this, you're expecting them to play according to rank.. now you only need to consider more things. if you're playing to win each game, it makes the game more interesting.

but yes, if considering all of the above you're still uneasy about playing with certain player, just foe them.

Primarily, of course, you should talk to your local GP or local doctor. They're likely the best bet with this.

To foe and move on has gotten us here . just avoid them if you can rate accordingly . if they start joining your games and play in same manner then as it goes foe and move on , with site numbers at an all time low game wait times increasing in both 24 hour format as well as speed side ,foe option should be the last option . the foe option does not apply to tournaments for example players see a game wrecker they make the call to join or not try and apply that before the foe button .

good luck in all

Mate, you clearly don't understand how sex works, but you're well up on the basics of homophobia. That ain't an attractive combination.

Mixed emotions. I will confess it's uncomfortably amusing like if you found a severed head in a box at a store. Also like if there was a severed head, this is wrong.

I almost miss the old days when some mod would go overboard punishing it.

Metrik

Personally I dont see what ur talking about as an issue, play the game and move on, its not a big deal, to each his own of course tho.

As for this "foe" thingy, it looks like this thread has provided you some opportunity.

Yeah. You can't just assume everyone is going to play with what you consider to be a sensible strategy. Mitigating against people who might do different or silly things is just a precaution you need to take. Like how you probably have anti-virus on your computer, rather than just letting it get infected and then complaining about how stupid jerks should stop making viruses.

It's funny that nietzsche gave you this advice because his usual approach is to just spend the entire game ranting and raving at anyone who does something he doesn't like (e.g. attack him). Physician, heal thyself.

game chat is also a tool.

i complain about your poor play in order to make you feel self conscious about how horrible your decisions are, then i suggest what your next move should be, be it in a direct or indirect manner, however i feel would be more effective at the moment. since you look up to me, because i'm better than you in intelligence looks and girth.. you will try to do something to please me.

other times i complain the whole game about everybody, and somehow that works because i'm a baby and nobody wants to see a baby unhappy, it's just imprinted in our dna to need to make babies happy, and so they subconsciously help me win the game.

You and I have played in 22 standard games together. You won six of those and I won six of those. Therefore, I am clearly just as capable a player as you. I simply hold myself with a little more poise.

Anyway we all know that if either one of us is sucking up to the other, you're the one doing the sucking.

I'm guessing this was directed at Friedrich, as I just looked us up - and it looks like you and I have only played one game together - a 10p classic map which I won.

lol why punish that? It is the same way friends speak to each other. Symmetry was being a smartass (and an unfunny one at that) and I hurled a generic insult at him. If anything, it was me offering my friendship.
