Thanks for all the good wishes folks. I'm beginning to associate going back to the UK with doom and gloom. My Dad went very recently, my Mum less than two years before that, my father-in-law not much before that. Hopefully mother-in-law is not gonna go too just yet.

So it looks as if they might let her go home on Friday. Mrs thecurl will get her home, but leaves for Ghana on Saturday, so I'm flying overnight friday so Grandma isn't left alone. Then we're looking at options for what to do in the long term.

Ah well, I get to indulge in all that fine Brit food again for a couple of weeks. Pickled onions! Mushy peas! Crumpets and pikelets! Proper cheddar!

That was overoptimistic - she's finally coming home today.
And I haven't found any pikelets.

Heading back to CA tomorrow, leaving Mum-in-law to the tender mercies of Mrs the Curl. She unfortunately has to go straight back to Ghana after that, so she won't have seen the house for about 11 weeks before she gets back.
Hoping to sort out a care home for the old dear in the next couple of weeks. That costs enormous amounts of dosh, so we're considering Airbnb'ing her house to help cover it. Anybody out there got any experience with this?

Well. mum-in-law is now in the care home and apparently happy with the setup, though she's not too happy that there are a number of dementia cases there - it reminds her too much of her husband's descent into Alzheimer's a few years ago.

One of the things I did while I was there was to clear out her kitchen of things that were well past their sell-by date. Worst offender was a tin of pease Pudding that expired in 2009. I don'r honestly know what Pease Pudding even is - some sort of pureed bean or pea. What you use it for I don'r know. Suppose I could google it.
