Will CC someday just be turned off?

Post by xroads »

I thought of something during one of the many times when the site was down.

I wonder if someday we will all go to log in, just to find that BW has finally given up and turned the switch off. What will everyone do if CC just goes away for ever with a flip of the switch?

Dont say it cant/wont happen. BW owns CC and can turn it off on a whim. Eventually subscriptions will dwindle to the point where it starts bleeding red, and the love affair will be over.

the last days could be epic.

cheating, multis, verbal abuse, the return of GLG, P@P, Blitz, wicked..

all while bW doesn't give a shit and has it hosted in a raspberry pi next to a light switch. and as long as Magnus keeps buying some 3 premiums per month he'll keep it there.. beer money bW will call it.

i think it's fair to assume that when it happens, there will be no announcement.

Most definitely - this is what happened on the previous site I was playing on before finding CC. One day the site didn't exist anymore

Is there a way we could sort for the number of premium players?

I’m not as in the know as I used to be, but doesn’t take much to look at the underlying numbers and see it’s not good.

Is [player]e_i_pi[/player]'s site any good? It looks worse than CC which is hard to believe. Although in all my years I've never seen a risk site with a good design.

Membership went down 20% in the last 12 months, it won’t last many more years w more of the same. (6,500 to 5,200) with every summer losing ~1,000 / year. That’s not just who go away for summer and come back, that’s the overall net loss each year. Once you hit a certain point it fails to sustain and based on my experience w other sites, you hit a point where it falls apart from there v quickly.

Dude, this edge-lord thing with Heath Ledger's joker needs to stop. It's tough to take you seriously when you're constantly referencing a batman film from a decade ago.

1,824 of the current 5,180.

Caveats:
- I don’t know the yearly subscription rate vs just have a month of premium
- I don’t know how many have subscriptions that are inactive that are still paying even though they aren’t on the active list
- I don’t know how many others buy speed packs and stars and non premium related content
- I don’t know how many were gifted by others or earned credits via competitions and won free credits / premiums from contests etc (IE non paid premiums)

Note: CC also gives away premium to mods & community and a ton of contests/tournaments give away credits as well. Not factored in here

This is a good question. I suppose a lot of the very active players here have won a lot of credits. I haven't paid for premium since 2013 and have gifted quite a few premium memberships from my credits over that time. Maybe that is why the dice gods hate me so much.

I guess we are lucky that wham does not rely on CC for income then.
CC is his baby, It is a long way from being euthanized while we still have a group of hardcore players and some blow ins, some who stay for a while and others who come and go.

If it is his baby, why doesnt he try to fix things?

Thanks...did you go through screen by screen to assemble that or is there a way to sort it? I ask because its as important to know the number of premium members as it is to know the number of overall members, IMO.
