It's almost impossible not to offend someone's idea of faith. Gay marriage, eating pork, killing a spider, buying wedding cakes..

I certainly wasn't looking for information. And I've never found an atheist that could put up much of a fight. They're arguments consist of silly mockery.

I like Proverbs 26:5 "Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit."

I figured all the atheists would appreciate a little of their own medicine.

I'm just here for a little spirited conversation. And I figured by the looks of it, there are a ton of atheists on cc.

You're not very good at mocking though. I for one feel no more sad, pathetic, foolish, in need of biblical quotes, or intellectually challenged than I did before I read your posts.

A fair point one might take from this is is that the "mocking" has no effect on the target, except that it very clearly does to young bullet, as he's made a whole thread about it.

This thread was way too obvious to be trolling. Trolling requires a bit of subtlety.

For years this forum had contended with the TPDS. There's no such thing as subtlety here.

Summary so far:
"All atheists do is mock".
"Atheists are blah blah blah, bad things."
sounds to me like you're the one mocking
"Yes, I'm mocking 'cos atheists deserve it. They mock us"
But you're crap at mocking
"Well, I wasn't really trying".

What made you think you could overwhelm anyone? You believe in imaginary beings. I mean, I like hobbits also, but I'm at least rational enough to know when a story is imaginary and when it's real.

I certainly wasn't looking for information. And I've never found an atheist that could put up much of a fight. They're arguments consist of silly mockery.

I like Proverbs 26:5 "Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit."

Perhaps you have also read the preceding proverb (26:4) - "Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him". When considering both proverbs together, a very clear sense observes - there is no good way to deal with a fool. Either way is no good. One would think that someone who is familiar with the proverbs would try to avoid conversation with fools, not instigate them. This general principle is further made clear in 23:9 "Do not speak to fools, for they will scorn your prudent words".

Liking individual proverbs isn't what I suggested though; it was to "spend some time in the proverbs". It's not a book to be taken lightly. If you read a bit further down the chapter, you will come across 26:7 "Like a lame man's legs are proverbs in the mouth of a fool". Proverbs are useless if not applied wisely. Even worse, they can be detrimental. 26:9 - "Like a thorn bush in a drunkard's hand is a proverb in the mouth of a fool".

The reason I suggested the proverbs specifically is because the wisdom is helpful for orienting your life according to God's plan. I guess the main question is: in what way does this thread glorify God? How is the gospel being shared here?

Sometimes you answer a fool according to his folly, and sometimes you don't. Depends on the situation. Your conclusion that 'there is no good way to deal with a fool' is missing the point of the passage.

What is your take on Mat 7:6 "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you."

Well, it certainly doesn't mean "sling mud and troll and call people names and pick fights and just be a generally unpleasant person".

You can use that one verse as an excuse for a lack of good behavior (although of course there are dozens of verses that suggest evangelism is a good thing). However, you can't use that verse to excuse poor behavior.

Either way, I asked two questions. The second was about the gospel. The first was about glorifying God. Even if you are not evangelizing you should be glorifying God. Where is that fruit in your life?

I'm all for evangelizing. Just haven't ever seen it effective on a message board. Have you?

God calls atheists fools. If they are fools, as the scripture declares, should we not expose such foolishness? And wouldn't exposing such foolishness bring glory to God?
