Final move

Post by alex_white101 »

i was wondering how many people out there put off their last move if they know they will lose tafter their go. i have found that quite alot of people take the full 23 hours for their final go when it is sure that they will lose. i find this backwards as not only does it annoy me having a certain loss in the my games area, but also surely if u lose the points quicker you will then make more points on your next win........

how many people here use this ''tactic''?

Well I suppose it makes some sense. Who knows, your opponent might have a hear attack in that extra 10 hours or so? But I'm freemium and need to free up game slots asap. Then again, I'd probably take my turn even if I was premium because it just isn't that big of a deal.
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

I'm guilty of this. Obviously I have a really low rating so I losing a lot of game, and yes, I tend to put off the ones that I am losing in. It's not because I am trying to manipulate my rating, but because I am more eager to take my turn in the games I am winning. I think that's the reason it takes people longer to take their turn when they are about to lose...they are procrastinating on taking their turn because frankly, it's just no fun!

Same here - no point in wasting my own time

Why put it off, it'll hurt anyway.

You can't avoid the inevitable, and waiting longer doesn't miraculously give you extra armies you wouldn't have had if you took your turn straight away.

I wouldn't waste someone's time like that, and I would like for it not to be done to me too.

I generally take my turn whenever i see it come up if im on the site, unless theres a tactical advantage not to.

And once, i was on the verge of losing when my opponent disappeared, giving me the game (we were the last two left in a 6 player game) and i was taking my turn fairly quickly. Who knows, they might have come back in time to finish me off if i'd have dragged it out.

Aside from just making the moves in the games I'm winning first and putting off losing games 5 min, I never do this, I would rather get it over with and move on.

Alex brings up a good point about not putting the loss off to maximize the points you win in other games. I had to think about the math for a second because I thought it might even out, but you might earn an extra 5 or 6 points if you lose then win as opposed to win then lose.

If you aren't premier, this is a dumb thing to do. It just takes more time until the next game you could join.
If you are preimer, its still bad sportsmanship to do this, they won fair and square, don't pout about it, just get it over with.

When I log into my games, I prefer to go in order of the games that I can finish the quickest before playing the games that are going to require a lot more thought. Games you are about to lose usually don't take much thought so I prefer to get those out of the way. That and I like to be a good sport and will let my opponent go ahead and enjoy his hard earned points.

its not a tactic. all that does is drag the game out. i figure if im going to lose, i just get it over with and move on to the next game. Although I feel 95% of the players drag the game out. So if the poll comes back saying that we end the game ASAP, than players are lying.

This is just a stupid thing to do, at all.

Why waste the time? I know some people take this game more seriously than others, and some don't care at all, but if you're going to miss a turn just to irritate somebody, why bother? Some of us don't want to wait 24 hours just because you know that you're going to lose.

I agree with this whole wasting time bit.

And you have to go out in a blazing fire of glory, am I right?

Agreed. It's the loser's way of trying to punish the winner somehow. "Oh, you are winning? I'll just deadbeat 2 rounds then!"

i would just finish it. i rather go down with honour and all though i lost, i still won his respect. thats good enough for me. y bother dragging it out. most likely though its mostly the premium members that do this cause they can afford to do this, we the freemiums only have 4 game limit so we would finish it faster and start a new game and get a fresh start.

mnnnn... well I've never really noticed if the last turn was played slowly by a near death opponent... and i suppose I wouldn't care either way...

when playing chess on-line my opponents have upto 10 days to make a move, so somebody here taking a "WHOLE" 24 hours is like no biggie... besides, I only normally check games every 12 hours or so...

well due to the fact that 1 v 1's fill up so fast whenever i play they are almost always effectively rt's, up until the last move where people seem to then leave that game as long as poss.
