So two Jonesey-type updates:
First, the curlson and the mother of his daughter are finally, (hopefully) irredeemably split. And his attempt to return to the East Coast to co-parent while living nearby failed when his job disappeared, and his housemates both left (meaning he couldn't rent the place on his own, even if the job had worked out)... so he's back with us in Cali. The mother also failed to be a single, independent mother, and is now back with her mother. So the Curlson would have been some distance from the little one even if he'd managed to stay there.
Second, when I say "us" , right now I mean "me", 'cos Mrs TC is back in Ghana for a few weeks, following up some leads.

Yesterday morning we heard an accident in front of our house. Accidents are common on our road. When there was a knock on the door I assumed someone needed to use the phone. I was trying to sleep in so it took a while for me to get to the door and the guy was gone when I opened it and walked out. After I came back inside, cops swarmed around my yard. They walked a guy out of the woods behind my house in cuffs. He had a bloody arm that they bandaged before putting him in the ambulance. I don't know what happened but we were pretty shaken. I'm glad I didn't open the door sooner. It took them a long time to clear the road. Here's a pic of my driveway.

So it looks like Mrs theCurl has some more work over in Ghana - if it comes through, there's a project that lasts a year, she'll be back and forth a few times, probably spending a month at a time over there. Whether I go too, and how often, is yet to be determined.

So, partial knee replacements can be a real bitch to recover from this time of year. You know, changing seasons, first snow falls, wacky temperature changes. Even percocet only does so much at times. But, its going a lot better than my ankle surgeries did. I'll say that.
