It wasn't Nag's blocking powers that stopped your kill, but rather a condition of Samlen's death that blocked it.

I put way too many blocking powers in this game, putting mafia at a huge disadvantage. Which I tried to rectify in numerous ways throughout the game - even changing Skoffin's role from basically an unkillable doctor to someone who stopped someones votes.
