And remember: tips are just that, tips. Not rules. Follow them, if you find a way that works better for you, by all means use it.

And I think the not attacking first turn in escalating is a good idea when you first start playing. That card seems very important, but with the dice it could cost 3+ armies even if there's only 1 defender. Later in the game the trade-ins will be so high, its just not worth it (genearally, for most people who would be reading this guide anyway) to loose that many armies early on just to gain a card, unless you have a shot at a small continet.

As far as Freestyle goes, just don't play it till you've got some experience, in my opinion.

Not that I really have any room to be giving advice, I've only completed 15 or 16 games to date and won 2 (one doubles, one standard).

Are you sure that you won a game? I checked again, and i saw no wins

I don't appreciate it when you act as if I talk as if it is an exception, I do it all the time and I just disagree with it as a guideline period. If you can hold it take it. Also I disagree with attacking on the first turn, the card is important if you can get a set, because it just is not likely for you to kill someone without a set yourself, and having an extra card or two so that you can turn in mid turn, or so that you can attack earlier is vital in such games, in another turn someone else may take it.

Nope, I didn't, sorry. I had a window open with CC and one with LG (where I've got 2-9 record) and was reading forums on both sites.... Got confused.... To much risk for my little brain to handle, I also sent 2 pm's to a guy on the other site about a game on this site, lol (they have similiar names, don't make fun of me....).

Like I said before, you think you are an exception when the rest of CC seems to agree with Wacicha. We all play different game styles the above is just to help newer people until they have found what fits them best. The above tips have a high rate of success and are time proven. You 60 games of experience may have lead you to believe something but I think I will trust Wacicha's 2060 games completed experience.

once again unfair

Post by Litehawk »

simply because i have '60' games on my profile is not an indication of my experience, just because you have played alot of games doesn't mean you knwo what you are doing and vice versa, moreover as a general guideline it essentially discourages risk taking which i think is the whole point of the game. All I am saying is that you guys are offering only one strategy and saying anything else is an exception which essentially discourages players from branching out because it likely won't work except in 'exceptions' such as my case.

basically i feel you are being close minded in saying that anything outside of that is exception to the rule and generally does not work. Yes alot of people agree with it and think its a great way to play, but that does not mean you should say anyone who doesn't and thinks its not good is wrong. It is all strategy in the end, and partially opinion, because i sincerely doubt anyone has compiled a survey of 'what' strategy was used and how effective it was yaddi-yadda.

i would just like to point out to any noobs from britain or europe. don`t play freestyle, mainly because it is full of americans and canadians, whilst your asleep in bed there having 2 goes, so when you go on the computer the next day you see that your very weak. stick to standard sequential and then you know that they all play in order.

Thanks for showing that even exceptions have a voice here on CC. The tips stand and you "tip" WILL NOT be added.

Good thread idea GC and Wacicha.

As for the tips themselves of course everyone has their own ideas and tactics litehawk, but these tips would be excellent for a new player (someone who doesn't have any idea of the gameplay) or a trainee (that knows the basic gameplay but not sure of the best tactics) to get up to speed quickly. It takes many games before you work out the best strategy to use for each situation (and there is no hard and fast rule) but in general if you follows these tips you wont go far wrong.

Good work lads!

I have to concur with Litehawk only in so far as this statement goes and others like it:
Don’t ever try to take and hold Europe, North America, or Asia.

The problem is that this is a guide, a compilation of tips for new players, using absolutes such as don't ever and never indicate that there is no other way. Maybe you should change it to, It is highly recommended that you do not... or highly recommended that you do... and these are the reasons... Every game is different, situations change, sometimes you are called on to try extreme things and sometimes you just need to do the basics. The most important statement on the front page is the one pertaining to knowing whats happening in the game when you log on.

Good point. I think you more aptly defended litehawk's position then he could.
I will go back through and make the changes when i get back from vacation. Cheers mates!

Maybe this can be revised to:

Europe, North America, and especially Asia tend to be more difficult to take over and hold then continents such as Oceania, and South America (Africa seems to be right in the middle). In most cases players fair better if they are able to focus on Oceania, South America, or Africa rather than the others.
