Fine silica sand is perfectly natural, but ingesting it can give you cancer.

"Natural" is no guarantee that something is good for you, and "artificial" is no guarantee that something is bad for you. Yes, as a broad generalization it is true that artificial substances can be more harmful, because organisms haven't had time to evolve a defense against them, but like any broad generalization it's not enough to base a policy on.

If you delve into the link that ny2 posted and go down to the table summarizing the various studies, you'll find a lot of mixed results. There is definitely some evidence that microbeads are more dangerous than natural microparticles, but it's not really overwhelming. I think it is possible that the blanket ban on microbeads was a bit of an over-reaction.

Self driving cars. It is happening and it will imply a huge change in the near future. Disruption, as they said.

Yeah, professional drivers will be obsolete very soon. I'm glad I'm close to retirement age. It's a race now. Can I retire before self-driving trucks take over the road?

People say that the estimation is 2020 will be already mainstream. I would say as a proffesional driver, things will be complicated from 2025 onwards

Yeah, gonna be close.

Luckily I'm smarter than the average bear. I may survive when others don't. Then again, I might not. Nobody can see all ends.

Sex robots! This will be a big help for posters like Mrswdk and warmonger, who's senseless postings are a result of not getting laid.

Sex robots will also lessen all these lone wolf attacks on innocent civilians, as we all know that those who get laid daily, are less likely to pick up a gun.

True, that is the other really interesting direction of technological development, the symbiosis of human and machines, enhancing life experience. By the rate of technological development, and unless there is a huge catastrophe, we may see this in our lifetime, replacing human parts for better equipped artificial limbs, eyes, and so on.

life expectancy increase trading spare body parts from chinese kids for Apple products.
You can get a kiddney for an Ipad, a (yellow) thumb for an iphone; a lung for macbook pro and a litter of blood for an old ipod with 32GB memory.
