Add a "Good Sportsmanship" Option for the Ratings System

Post by Paddy The Cat »

Title
"Good Sportsmanship" as a Ratings Option

Concise description:
In addition to the tags that are available in the ratings system (such as: sore loser, good strategy, balanced play, etc.), add a tag for "Good Sportsmanship."

Specifics/Details:
-Add "Good Sportsmanship" as an avaibale tag when leaving another player a rating.
-It will be just like all of the others in function... it's essentially just one more to add to the list.
-Players will be able to check mark the box by it as one of their 4 options of explanatory tags when leaving a rating.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
Periodically throughout my time on CC, I have wanted to let other plays know when a certain player is an exceptionally good sport, which I'd say is a very obviously desirable trait in an opponent. Usually, I have to try to get this message across by checking something like: Friendly, Cooperative, Balanced Play, or some combination of those kinds of things. However, I would not agree that if someone is a good sport, then they are friendly, nor would I agree with the converse. I have the same thought with the "cooperative" tag (usually, I think that this means someone may be willing to partake in truces, will leave a card spot in games when appropriate, and the like).

Sure, there are lots of players that may do the usual "Gl" or "Gg," but over the years I have played some people that were just so pleasant to play against - they lose with grace, they compliment other player's moves, and they win honorably.

I mean... we have: rude, secret diplomacy, uncooperative, vindictive, and even SORE LOSER as an option, but I find that there are not as many tags to select from to describe a good player. Simply put, I think adding a tag for "Good Sportsmanship" would help other players know when they are getting into a game with a respectful lady/gentleman. Good sportsmanship is not just the absence of bad sportsmanship, and it's time we make that distinction!

OH! I almost forgot to mention that this should, in theory, be VERY easy to implement, and I know I would personally use it a fair deal, and I'd be surprised if others didn't follow suit.

Oh man, what an amateur. Obviously you dont know anything about web development. Now you dont see the CC devs telling you how to drink milk and cough up furballs do you? Exactly! So why dont you stop telling everyone how easy their job is.

Look, at the moment the problem is that the whole team is bogged down trying to figure out how to change the colour of the Feature Team.

And now this....

Its just one phenomenally difficult task after another!

First off, thanks for calling it a good suggestion. I'd really like to see this one, because I would use it a lot and look for this tag when checking other people's ratings, so it's nice to see someone who agrees.

Second off, I can't tell if you're being facetious or not. But, I think you are, so LOL.

see... we were once able to write what we wanted about the people played and it was glorious... then, people realized just how abused the system was, so a new one was implemented... now, people are asking for something like what we once had and/or more ways to rate people... like the surrender button, it was already done and abused, so it is not coming back... the black jesus has spoken, this thread can now be locked..-Jésus noir

Hes not really asking for open comments to be allowed. Just that one more box that you can check off be allowed.
Pretty simple.

I dont know if I would use it, cuz I dont really rate people anymore. But when I used to I probably would have. Its a small change that only new(er) users would likely use...but sure ok, +1 for what its worth.

I'm concerned about this because there's not really universally agreed upon meaning of what good sportsmanship is. For example some people think it's unacceptable to give away details in fog games and some think it's fine. So the ratings might reflect an underlying disagreement in that idea in the community rather than something meaningful about the individual player.

Isn't that the case with many of the tags though? Quick can mean takes turns right away or quicker than avg or willing to RT. Good strategy, not everyone agrees on what good strategy is sometimes. Same with leader, friendly, and several other tags can be taken to mean multiple things.

I have that issue with suicider. Does it mean when I beat someone they actually go out and kill themselves. I have never rated someone as a suicider because its really hard to tell. Maybe they are just sulking.

But good sport is an opinion. Not a question of fact, so i think its good to go

Can we add a WingCmdr Ginkapo tag too whilst were at it.

It should be given to only the best all round players who made the game really enjoyable for you.

I feel this has as much merit as every other arbitary, subjective tag choice, although this one wouldnt be subjective.
