Conquer features a new classic map with territories defined by borders, music, sound effects and animation.
This is a highly stripped back version of the game, with no game options currently, and only very simple rules (2 Player, No Spoils, Chained). This is NOT meant to appeal to experienced players (like you), but instead to attract new players to the game, both on CC and beyond. When you play a game of Conquer, you are playing a CC game, which also exists as a game within CC, but is (or can be) played with this new interface.
Think especially of mobile gaming.
And perhaps an applet thing for facebook where you can invite your friends to play Conquer and enjoy the noises and animations?

the game was kind of slow, but it was different. A bit cheezy. I can say that I played Conquer more than I have chess or backgammon. I have never played the other games, just Conquer...and that was only because owen had made this thread.
It's a change of pace, I guess I don't mind it...I don't have to play it all the time.

One of the best selling Chess PC games was Battle Chess which sold specifically because the units would tear each other apart. Anytime you make a comment about any game, you are totally off base. Did your parents not let you play video games growing up? Do you even know what a computer is?

for YEARS many of us had made the suggestion... Lackattack never got around to it... the fake owner that killed speed and the forums never got around to it... the dude after that, did he ever even post on the site? and now finally, BW has done it... i think it is a good idea and i'm not going to slag it, because i was one of the vocal supporters of the idea... i do need to start playing chess or something between turns... i admit, i would have loved it more during one of my many 6 month forum bans, but i'm still going to try and utilize it more...-Jn
p.s.-but that Conquer game just blew my mind... come to CC to play a watered down, noised up version of risk.. ha

Could we "inherit" Speed Sudoku from lack, force him to come back, and add another programmer to the team? Played it a while back and liked the concept as an alternative game.

------I was commenting on Conquer/noises......If you go to a Stratego site...there is a lot of noise. Sabers clinging and clashing. As you pieces attack each other... I find that just o.k. Not ground breaking. The game can do without it. As for Conquer...Why would you have no spoils? Esc.,is a basic setting of Risk...If you want to attract people. It's No Spoils because that is the simplest option. Escalating Spoils (or any spoils) would require an extra level of complexity. These are all very early prototypes. Nobody expects Tic Tac Toe to take the world by storm. It was the first game BW programmed in the new environment, and he had to start somewhere. Slowly but surely he's exploring new areas. He started with the simplest game imaginable and gradually he's building more complex games. Conquer is a whole order of magnitude more complex than Tic Tac Toe, but it's still a long way from being an immersing game.
There's no effort to publicize them because they are underwhelming. All that's needed is for the few people who stumble upon them to play them a little bit, so that BW gets some active feedback. As the list of Other Games gets longer, there will be more aficionados of one Other Game or another who will frequent that area of the site, but there's no need to push. A slow trickle of people exploring them is perfectly adequate for now.

What I really want to know is, what direction is bigwhump going in? Why is he investing so much in Distractions, instead of CC itself? Has he lost faith in CC as a viable business? What is the endgame? What is any of this really about?

In my game the computer failed to actually take a territory in the entire game, it was a bit of a disappointment.

Exact reason I didn't buy a full year - It's pretty shady that you have no idea whats happening around here. Not that we have the right to know, but as a community it kind of makes sense to keep us in the loop some what.

Statement of intent: Even though I have the ability to receive my premium at no cost due to volunteering my time here, I intend to purchase multiple years of premium as a show of support for all the work that is being done.

I'm not selling anything. I'm simply stating my personal choice to support the site. There has been a lot of work thats gone into the site since bigwham took over, and even though some of the updates haven't been liked, there have been plenty of great updates and I want to acknowledge that more than anything. I find this much better / refreshing then the stagnant site that was here awhile ago where NOTHING was ever being done.
Therefore, since everyone seems to want to post the "I'm not buying premium anymore until _______!" everywhere - I'm making the counter statement of "I AM finally buying premium because I support the site and the work going on."
You dont have to agree. Nobody does. But, I'm voicing my opinion here amongst the rest.
