September 2015 - A Loss of Time

Post by JamesKer1 »

Official Monthly Challenge for September 2015
Brought to you by [player]Lord Arioch[/player] and the Community Team

The Calendar Act 1750 was an Act of the Parliament of Great Britain. It reformed the calendar of England and British Dominions so that the new legal year began on 1 January rather than 25 March (Lady Day); and it adopted the Gregorian calendar, as used in most of western Europe. The Parliament held that the Julian calendar then in use, and the start of the year on 25 March, were "attended with divers inconveniences, not only as it differs from the usage of neighbouring nations, but also from the legal method of computation in Scotland, and from the common usage throughout the whole kingdom, and thereby frequent mistakes are occasioned in the dates of deeds and other writings, and disputes arise therefrom."

Due to this change, Britain theoretically lost 11 days- creating financial problems and contract issues nationwide. Because of the insane proportions of this event, the challenge will also be a little insane! We will not divulge the exact settings, however, it will be VERY easy to get this medal should you figure out the setup.

NO SIGN-UPS REQUIRED - Everyone is eligible!
To sign up all you need to do is join and win at least one game started between September 1 and September 31 with the following settings:

So basically anything goes as long as it's random map? Seems a bit daft.

Not quite true.
I just completed a random and got nothing so there are some more specific settings to figure then that.

Did the game start today? If not then it wouldn't be September.

Yep.
Started a random speed just to check it out.
Won and received nada.
I think the point is to make you struggle through a ton of random settings until you figure it out?

Perhaps. I'd expect obscure settings are more likely to reward. I won't be getting involved.

Don't know if it was intentional or not but September only has 30 days.
Do I get a prize for spotting this?

No. Only a few particular settings will give you a token. The gig is to figure out which combination of settings will do it. It's basically a puzzle-game within the game.

No challenge is for everybody, but I would have thought you would like this kind of thing.

There are settings I don't want to play, like zombie. It involves a lot of luck and there's no medal so I don't want to bother. My game count is high enough and my dedication to the Great War means I'm getting plenty of games with settings which aren't exactly my preference, so I don't want to add to that. The challenge itself is a nice idea.

Just a little question, it's written that the only crieria is 30 points, so no need to get, bronze and silver if we already have one gold?
Am I right?

When you say setting set it has to be exactly that setting set, or it is only one setting in particular that matter ?

For example, is it a token if you play a "random trench" whatever spoils/number of players, what is important is to play a trench, or is it "random trench 2vs2 nuclear foggy adjacent" only, meaning it has to be this exact combination of setting ?

Is there any reward for placing in the top 3 or top 5 for the challenge, or is it just a matter of getting 30 points and your done for the month?

Re: Above

-There is no token count restriction because I deemed that unfair. Once you get thirty points you will receive the medal.
-Setting Sets Vary. For example, Setting Set A May have "Any nuclear game OR an 8 player Waterloo, greater China, or AYBABTU game". It does not, but the Setting sets have more than one way to achieve the token.
-Green Star for First, Blue star for 2-5

Also side note- this is most likely the easiest challenge ever. The settings aren't too horribly obscure, but I'm still shocked at how many have already qualified. I'm glad that there can't be any complaints about difficulty, since one game can complete the challenge for you and it's already been achieved by so many :)

Also other side note- I based settings on requests I had recieved for challenge, but made it a combination of those settings in an attempt to please everyone :)

I guess it is too late to change the rule, wouldn't be fair. But you definitely could have asked people to have 1 token of each. Bronze appear completely useless since he only give 1 point while gold can give you the medal with only one game !
Already having 4 gold and 1 bronze, I was looking for the silver thinking I need the 3, would have make the challenge just a little bit more interesting.

I find it bit too easy now.

I'm drunk. That's my excuse for this simple question. I'm also perhaps simple.

I have 15 bronze thingies. Do I get a thingy at the end of the month?
