Re: Is CC Declining?
Buying use of the name risk would be for advertising purposes only no? Just to bring in some of the millions of people who have heard of risk, but not CC to try to app? Well whatever, this convo is probably just beating a dead horse anyway... I was just trying to clarify for Esperanto Jesus that the conversation was about who owns the right to user created maps.

what needs to be clarified? volunteers made them, CC owns them. hasbro has no claim on any map on this site, that was taken care of long ago. and even in instances when a map maker was thrown off the site and requested his maps be removed, CC declared they were still their maps. what are you clarifying for me? that has never even remotely been a question of mine...-Jésus noir

A typo in my post quoted above was probably what confused you further. I've entered it above in the quote so it makes more sense.
When you quoted stringybeany here:
The important bit is to get the rights, take the small maps to app immediately, and take the user base to 100k and up.
It's not hard. It just takes $kull $weat.
And you said:
what rights? the maps are made for free by users, for the site... even when members have been thrown off the site and requested to have their maps removed, they were denied those maps... there is another site that has straight up rips of the maps and nothing has ever been done about it... i don't know what you mean by "get the rights"... can you explain further?-Jésus noir
I was trying to say:
stringybeany was talking about 'use of name' rights from Hasbro for name "RISK" to be used in advertising/SEO purposes. No one was talking about map ownership rights at all except you.

first thing first, learn how to multi-quote... secondly, CC will never be able to use the work RISK, ever... Hasbro has it's own online RISK game... there was an alleged sell to HASBRO in the works years ago, that was when the great decline started (cleaning up the site for the alleged sale).. anyway, RISK will never be used on this site, unless HASBRO owns it...-Jesus noir

First things first, I don't care if you like how I wrote my message, or are you going to tell me it was against the forum rules to post like i did?
Secondly, I was simply informing you that you took someone elses post totally out of context. You are welcome for clarifying it for you. I won't attempt to clarify things again for you in the future as it appears you take offense to even the suggestion that you have misread or misunderstood something. Your loss, enjoy living on an Egyptian river for the rest of your life.
Thirdly, your opinion on use of name rights is noted. I've noted that you have an opinion, which surprises everyone! it's basically the same as what i said, that use of the name risk is either too expensive or that they wouldn't license it at all... but your laying it out with some incorrect info. What I would point out is that you fundamentally don't understand business transactions. Hasbro does not own any online risk game. EA does, and they license the use of name from Hasbro. Hasbro could cancel the deal tomorrow and license it to someone else(like CC) if they felt it was a good business decision. However because EA has deep pockets, and is buying many more names from hasbro, it isnt a good business decision to sell individual name rights to smaller companies. CC may never be able to afford the rights as I've been saying in all my posts (its just too expensive).
Use of name on the mobile platform however may or may not be covered by the current EA deal. This is what I believe stringy bean was trying to suggest...EA does not have an offical risk game built for the mobile platform, as far as 5 min of research can tell, no one does, which does leave a small window open for CC to talk to hasbro about a possible mobile platform use of name deal. Perhaps it could be revenue sharing rather than the big cash deal that CC cant afford, who knows there are always options in business...

I've probably played less than 20 games this month. I am still active, I just have decided to play better - playing better means playing less games in general. I'll take on a bunch of games when our next clan war kicks off. 20 games completed in a month doesn't mean anything...I know dozens of others who are active but play low game loads.

Very true. There are a number of players who maintain less than ten active games at at time constantly.

Most of the time now a days I'm below 10 games, rarely I get over 20.

I currently have 180. If I get under 100 I feel privileged. I was over 200 for a while recently, that got too much.

Re: Is CC Declining?
I set 40 as my goal more than two years ago, and have never reached it. Every time I get my game load below 80 or so, the next round of some tournament or other comes up, and there I am, back close to 100, or even over 100 at times.
<sigh>
There's just too many good tournaments that I just can't say no to.

The Great War has really bumped my count up. I was happily on 80-100 until that came along.

Re: Is CC Declining?
Am I very naive when I think that using the word 'Risk' (which obviously isn't gonna happen, we all agree on that, so let's give that a rest) isn't necesarry for the mobile app to be successful?
Apps have a description and you can make it perfectly clear that you can play Risk on CC, without mentioning the word 'Risk'. We'll need someone who's got a way with words (preferably not someone who wrote the genius stuff on the homepage before) and anyone who knows Risk, will understand that that is what CC offers you. Some social media attention would be good, perhaps some current users will even dare to show CC to their friends.
I might be thinking of this too lightly, but I think that at least thinking of it is better than not thinking about it...

I don't think the word is necessary, no, but SEO has to be strongly considered and I'd bet the most common search engine term used to locate CC is "online risk". However, in terms of actual advertising it's not necessary at all. We just need decent design and budget for that.

no, but i will tell you that people will simply not read posts like that, that aren't quoted properly... kind of like how they don't read C&A complaints that aren't filled out properly... there is a quote feature and a layout/flow to the forums for a reason... but hey, you go ahead and post how you want... like confederates posts, people will either suffer through them or they won't...
the rest of your post was very thought provoking... great job!!!-Jésus noir

I did a quick search of the app stores for the word 'risk', I notice the most common way people get around use of name rights, is to title their games like this:
Conquer Club (strategy & risk)
Conquer Club (risk evolved)
Conquer Club (war and risk)
Conquer Club, Risk & Strategy
This would still allow you to optimize SEO, while not risking any lawsuits.
