International report confirms: 2014 was Earth’s warmest year on record
• Greenhouse gases continued to climb.
• Record temperatures observed near the Earth’s surface.
• Tropical Pacific Ocean moves towards El Niño–Southern Oscillation conditions.
• Sea surface temperatures were record high.

This is a perfect example.
The warmest year on record for Africa - yes
However, the Americas did not record the warmest years on record in 2014, and actually recordings show that it was cooler than average.

Earth's. [emphasis added]
Of course not every place on Earth is going to see the same effects. Climate is a global average of all the Earth.

Re: Global Warming Stuff
Phatscotty, it wasn't just Africa. Obviously there will be some variation across the planet.
"Four independent global datasets showed that 2014 was the warmest year on record. The warmth was widespread across land areas. Europe experienced its warmest year on record, with more than 20 countries exceeding their previous records. Africa had above-average temperatures across most of the continent throughout 2014, Australia saw its third warmest year on record, Mexico had its warmest year on record, and Argentina and Uruguay each had their second warmest year on record. Eastern North America was the only major region to experience below-average annual temperatures."

A perfect example of what? Your inability to comprehend simple statements? How else would we define the Earth's temperature except through some sort of global average?

You missed out the important point in Phatscotty's response. It was something along the lines of "MERICA!!!!!"

Re: Global Warming Stuff
@Sab - Are you considering the powers that local planning have about material types and uses? So use of more sustainable and local sourced (low transport costs) materials in preference to the vernacular techniques which are so prevelant? Also what the incentives are for local planning/developers to do so.

Yeah okay.... so the warmest year on record for the earth, and yet the polar cap is having record growth at the same time?

wow, he didn't even have to source his claims and yall run with it for 18 posts straight? There were actually 2 countries which recorded lower than average temperatures.

If 194 out of 196 countries saw above-average temperatures, and only 2 out of 196 saw below-average temperatures, and your argument is that we should not be concerned about global warming, then sources should be the least of your concerns.

Is it the case that 194 countries saw above average temperatures?

That would be the logical conclusion of the statement that only 2 countries saw below average temperatures.

Re: Global Warming Stuff
hmm, logic may conclude out of 194 chances, at least one might be unchanged. however, the main point I want to make and have been trying to make about the reason why I am not a global warming believer but also not a global warming skeptic... I just saw Dennis Miller make it, the way only Dennis Miller can. Specifically the part about how average global temperature were taken in the past.

Congratulations, you’ve just lived through the hottest month ever recorded. (Yes, another one.) According to NASA, the Japan Meteorological Agency, and, now, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), July 2015 was the hottest month registered on the planet since record-keeping began.
“The July average temperature across global land and ocean surfaces was 1.46°F (0.81°C) above the 20th century average,” NOAA reports. “As July is climatologically the warmest month for the year, this was also the all-time highest monthly temperature in the 1880–2015 record, at 61.86°F (16.61°C), surpassing the previous record set last year in 2014 by 0.14°F (0.08°C).” Emphasis mine.
The heat was especially scorching around the Equator, in the oceans, in parts of Asia, and in Southern Europe.
The most remarkable thing about this is how unremarkable it is—temperatures are climbing so rapidly and reliably that we see a new “hottest month ever recorded” every other year or so. Last year was the hottest year on record, and NASA scientists say 2015 is poised to be another. NOAA has already confirmed that the January-July period thus far is the hottest such period yet.
It’s been more than 30 years since the world has seen a colder-than-average month. Get ready to live through plenty more record-breakingly hot ones.

Fools, I've been telling you for months that global warming is directly linked to global chat! Expressed succinctly in this elegant equation:
Global Chat = Global Warming
Global Chat = Global Warming
