What I do care about is the special medals: Tournament organizers, tournament winners, general achievement, ... Purely because I have so few or none of them.
Though I have to admit, when I initially started playing CC the ordinary medals were very important to me. Now, they are so common to me, I don't really care.
So yeah, I I think it's "the grass is greener on the other side" kind of thing.
Why do you care about tournament organizer medals ?? They don't mean anything anyone can get one with very little work its not a sign of skill or ability it just means you have free time. It should be taken off the medals page.
I don't know. It just feels tremendously good when you put a lot of effort into organizing a tournament, therefor contributing to the community on the website and then get rewarded with a medal to show it off.
I'm not saying it's rational, but it's just how I feel about it.
but the players enjoy them. they move fast and are a bit more exciting. I ran my share of them, not so much for the medal, but I liked building brackets and such. I ran my fair share of the longer and bigger ones too. i'll admit tho', that I put effort into gaining medals to get to the first page, but that was only once I saw it being possible. when I first started it was for the shear joy of running the tournament.
then I got banned from running them because somebody got in a pissy mood or something.

It does sound interesting, however there would have to be some exception for tournaments and beta maps.

yeah, I don't know anything about coding or programming or whatever, but I bet it would be a major overhaul of the site. but that seems to be already happening/happened. so shouldn't be a big deal really.

Re: How important, to you, are medals?
Dump medals for things that having a dump is a greater achievement. Ratings achievement medal for example. What a negative self delusion circle toss of an idea. Linking medals to unique kills on a rapidly shrinking site(talking about total number of users, not number of pages, lines of code), is an inducement for less scrupulous people to act poorly in a pathetic attempt to make their wall look purty. How many douche nozzles have empty minded pus written on their walls along the lines of - If I've foed you, it is because I'm searching for new kills for medal XYZ"
f*ck medals, and everyone that gets a boner over them. f*ck them with a big oscar sized chili dipped, lime basted, salt crusted medal shaped like a stringy cat turd.
<phew> wipes bro. Now that I have that off my chest. Is anyone looking forward to the weekend?

I've been close to a few medals, but I haven't bothered chasing after them.

I play for the medals. The idea of doing what I would have to do to pursue being Conqueror does not appeal to me. So medals are what I played for for a long time. But, I recently joined a clan for the first time and I am loving that. The games take on special importance because you don't want to let your clan down and you want bragging rights amongst clans.

What do you think about the current medals system?
How could we improve medals or the idea behind them?
Good.
Nothing.
Why do you want to change smthg to the medals? Really not necessary imo. The current system work quite well and doens't necessite modifications. I barely ever see someone complaining about them ( except in this thread ).
Medals are nice to get. Sometimes you get some you don't expect it ( bronze and silver especially ofc, you tend to notice when you are close to platinum).
Nice to chase them, higher level is sufficiently high so that very few people will ever have all of them, low level is low enough so that new player get the first one quite fast. They're beautiful. Nice, keep it that way.
I like medals.

Re: How important, to you, are medals?
Hopefully there is already something planned to make CC easier to understand for new and for those that want to play "basic" risk, so I do not think it would be necessary.
Otherwise, why not, but seems a bit tricky to decide which medal unlock which setting, or is it just amount of medals?

it's been suggested before. but I doubt it is taken seriously. even though it would probably revitalize the site. to be fair tho' there are probably loads of issues that it would create. however, I think they would be worth it in the end.

I think it would be better for specific medals to unlock specific settngs/maps. amount of medals could get complicated with all the tournament medals and such.

Couldn't care less. Rank is more important than medals.
I suppose freemiums (freemia ?) who acquire sufficient medals could be awarded premium.
Whatever system you have though, if there is advantage to be gained from it, someone will try to cheat it or find a way round it.
I am not surprised that you as a freemium don't care about medals. With only 4 games at once It's not the easiest thing to acquire mounds of medals. During my first few months on CC I didn't give medals a thought. But once I bought premium and started playing 50 games at once (ah, to be young again....) medals started dropping in.
And once medals started dropping in I started paying attention, got interested, and at times, have even chased one or two.
Medals are a great addition to the site blake, and I am certain that there are thousands of people that would not be here if not for them. It's about psychology and how people tick. Take away medals and the scoreboard and there would be a stampede out the door.
Re: How important, to you, are medals?
This poll is a microcosm of this gaming site...
There are way too many options, which end up making the whole thing pointless...
50 people out of 91 so far, gave you no indication as to whether they liked medals or not...

the guy said "I'm a medal hunter, and I'd like you guys to create new medals" and asked it to be translated.
I guess no one had the idea before, and such contributive request will be treated in priority.

Re: How important, to you, are medals?
Important.....in what way? Just to collect them....then they are NOT that important for me to accumulate. Then again I DO use them as a gage of a player that I am thinking of getting in a game against. If they have 2 or 3 guys with a 4.3 or something, I probably won't get in that game as it just bodes trouble. THOUGH I do look at the ratings to see if they are pissy or serious.
I must admit, I have given token 5 ratings for just NOT screwing up and I ran across a guy that has decided to give a 3 for courtesy and you have to have done something to catch his eye before he will give a 4 or a 5 in a category. I like that and am thinking on doing that. NOW, your reading this from a guy that has a platinum for rating for just doing what I said...courtesy.
Other medals...can tell me they are good at certain things but RANK, is what I want and am proud to achieve one and (lol) actually kinda miffed when I lose one. But i try and play with equal or better ranks so if I DO pull one off....I get some serious points and lose little. Of course that is why I am a LT. but did hit Major for a couple of months!!!

Re: How important, to you, are medals?
I'm waiting for CC to open up buying medals with CC points to bolster revenue and the tidal wave of outrage that would follow. Seems to me a psychotic litmus test about whether people care about medals. Maybe next April Fools day

Re: How important, to you, are medals?
CC offers different kinds of incentives to play - winning games, gaining ranks, earning medals - and I like all of them. The medals that are most important to me are gameplay medals - term, standard, doubs, trips, quads. It was the same thing in Scouts, earning medals and badges for things like building a fire and learning different knots.
Re: How important, to you, are medals?
a suggestion I made a long time ago and I would not have benefited from it at the time was this. gold platinum then diamond with gold 400 kills platinum 800 kills and diamond 1200 kills.Sinse then I thought of it a little more and realized those truly dedicated players with high game win totals would still have a cap.So although I like the look of the platinum medal. I think a system of 400 for gold 800 for gold2x and so on with no cap. There would need to be a number inside the gold medal or above it.With this system those who actually play games, their medal counts would increase dramatically. As for me and medals with some settings once I reached platinum in them I stopped playing the setting if I did not enjoy it.
edit. for example mageplunka has over 7000 kills for tripps.

Re: How important, to you, are medals?
I agree, Ooge. If players have already achieved platinums, there's still higher to go. The problem we're running into now is a shrinking player base and the issue that some of these medals (like poly) might be out of reach, but a fifth tier would be welcome.
I'm not taken with diamond, though. It would be nice to stick with metals for medals. Uranium? =) Unobtanium? =)

I am easy..if players like Uranium or that other hard to pronounce word you suggested so be it.I just have never liked a medal cap.this is about fun first but its also about winning games and why not reward those who have won the most on certain settings.shrinking player base is a sad reality isn't it.
