Ill host some more in the future.
The goal is to get new comers excited about the game. The thing is that this is a game you learn by doing.
In my opinion thses smaller games are harder as there really is no room for error. Its politics and liars poker rolled into one.

Are there other games with a few more power roles that are vanilla though? Maybe there could be one like that! I find these to be much easier, probably because there are less people, but I understand there is no real room for error.

The key is also keeping a game balanced. I hear what you are saying. No one likes to play a VT. Everyone wants to be super power role. I have had some of my best games as a VT.
My goal is to get some games with some flavor and power roles.Nothing to complicated.

I love playing VT, so much easier. Play agressive town, and make it clear that you have no power, free pass to the end of the game.

Blake hosted only-mod mafia in our mod forums, it was really weird, all of us had some kind of power, I was Russian roulette master and I had to visit someone each night and play Russian roulette with them... and I could kill myself (which eventually happened night 6)... but it was fun. So yeah, C9 with 7 people could also work if you have imagination for the powers...

Yup those games are fun but again one should also strive for game balance.Balance meaning mafia and Town have an equal chance to win.
Worst game I played was a small mafia game and the game was over day 2 because mafia had a day sniper. They were able to kill during the day.

This appears to be what you are looking for. More complex options for possible setup and introduces a few more roles. Still 7 player and still mostly vanilla, but a lot more variation.
I've never played it so cant comment on balance, but mafiascum net appear to be pretty reliable for these things.

Heh, I was just thinking about that style today and how it might be fun to try and mod a game of it. It's a 9-player game, though, not 7.
Hmm. I think I will try my hand at running one.

Can anyone tell me what is required to host a game, except tracking vote count? I got some ideas myself...

I would suggest playing before modding to get a feel for how roles really work,
