I think the person who created this thread speficically told us to ignore everything but graphics. Sully's map is a bit confusing but it's really pretty!!
Bungie could you please please remove that awful signature [-o< ? I'm having serious seizures because of it.

Not quite the prettiest map, but the graphic scheme for this new BETA map is pretty cool.

the maps coming out as of late are just not that appealing... seems as if the foundry standards may have dipped a bit. the graphics and gameplay just dont excite me in the least. bamboo jack, AoM, World, Tisha's maps, just to name a few...-el Jesus negro

For me the prettiest map is .... First Nations Americas

The style, that the mapmaker used to put 2 different maps together (plus a piece of paper for Caribbean's regions) is awesome and artful (not sure the last word is correct, but you know what I mean)

We're aware of some less-than-optimal quality maps being published in the last years, and the foundry is doing the best it can to remedy the problem and bring the standards back up to the level they should be...

Currently there are some really nice looking maps in the main foundry... just take a look!

Well, I'll leave that up to the players to decide...

One problem with the foundry is that we currently have very few people who know CC gameplay and are able to give good gameplay feedback before beta... this may be why we have more instances of maps that require lots of gameplay changes in beta, recently.

That may have been a reason for a slump in the foundry standards, but by now the current generation of mapmakers has started to catch up and the standards are rising up to old levels again. And maybe even beyond them...

The real problem currently is lack of feedback, we really need more people giving feedback on maps before they go to beta. Especially on gameplay.

I'd happily help out in this regard. Point me in the right direction. At the end of the day it's gameplay that's key to a map's success and popularity.

Go to the main foundry and check out any map threads with red dots - they're ones that don't have a gameplay stamp yet so they're still in gameplay development.

Or, more generally, just hang out in the foundry, follow some map threads, look at maps that look interesting to you and just offer your opinion whenever you feel like it. Mapmakers are generally pretty receptive to well-thought-out feedback - sometimes, we get some heated arguments when opinions clash but that's pretty much true of any part of CC.

The trouble is that you can't just dip into the Foundry like you can GD or Off-Topics...if you haven't followed the whole thread for a particular map, I know that I for one don't want to comment in case the same point has been made before.
Important Tournament Notice

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

No need to worry about that. While it's true that repeating things that have already been discussed (sometimes several times) can be frustrating for the mapmaker, it's always better to voice your concern than risk being the only one noticing an issue and not bringing it up. For good measure, you can preface your post with "I'm sorry if this has already been brought up, but..." Most mapmakers are pretty tolerant for such situations and don't expect you to have followed the entire thread, especially when the threads can become dozens of pages long. At most, you may get some tired comments of the type "yes yes, it's already been discussed"...

The one thing to remember when giving feedback is to be civil and not overly pushy. While you have every right to express your opinion about a map, the mapmaker also has the right to disagree, within reason - so don't be intimidated or insulted if your feedback isn't immediately accepted... sometimes mapmakers want to hear other opinions, or they may have reasons why they are reluctant to make the change you suggest - in those cases, it's much more constructive to participate in the discussion and try to reach a compromise than to just insist on your own point of view.

However, even if you don't want to participate too deeply in the discussions, just voicing a casual opinion about a map helps as well... all feedback is welcome.

I have to say that I agree with the very first suggestion.
The Japan map is very easy to look at.

OK nat, thanks. I'll check it out when I have the time to devote to reading through the pages (avoid repetition and all that).

Black Jesus, always alert, an experienced poster no doubt about it.

But I really like Eastern Hemisphere. I'm even willing to debate aesthetic values, and trying to impose my subjectivity to anyone who dares to refute my opinions.
