This was an idea that popped into my head and I just went with it. I've basically taken the idea to the point where criticizims/comments from other CC members will get this map closer to quenching and the final forge.

This will also be my first attempt at XML, so pointers/tips/help in this aspect would be VERY helpful.

I appreciate the feedback and I would love to play this map in the near future.

very good start I'd say.

XML tip. get the XML from another map, then change all the names to fit your own. this makes it much easier.

on the map itself, im not sure about the size of those army circles. there's a thread on the 2nd page I think called army circles. those ones are perfect

48 territories is very good.

FYI it's spelled bullpen

If this is the large version, the territory names on the small are not going to be readable. Right now, I can read them, but I imagine others will not. You might want to make them bolder or something

other than graphics...

-id like to see a territory at each position...shortstop, catcher, pitcher, LF, CF, RF...etc.
-print shouldnt be in the middle, id switch it with TV

i had worked a little on a baseball map...id like to see this looking more like widowmakers new revamp of the coliseum...

you can use googles skethup and there are tons of open source models of baseball parks....

the whole map should be bigger, and perhaps 9 territories on the field.. only makes sense right?

ya definitely...and maybe have territories for the different news stations commentating the game? Might get a little hectic but just an idea.

and maybe the batter can do ranged attacks on all the stands (or at least some) to simulate home runs :P

Good start; it's about time we had a sports-themed map.

Seconded... it would add a "baseball" quality to the game. It would make the batter a very powerful space, though. Maybe it could be a high-decay space, and there could be dugouts that attack to batter one-way?

Also, fans should be able to throw trash at the outfielders.

My biggest beef with all these sports maps is that the actual play areas barely make them up. People just can't help themselves but to make the stands more important strategically.

-2 is a bit excessive for batter i believe, would suck if you start with it and get 3 armies which menas you only get one, HUGE disadvantage

On the batter position, I didn't think that a -1 bonus would be enough of an offset of what the position can do, but I may have missed on the tactical advantage/disadvantage.

Also, the batter will start as a neutral country.
(here's the XML to do that)
lackattack wrote:Starting Neutral Territories (e.g. Ethiopia starts with 6 neutral armies)

Code: Select all

<country>
<name>Ethiopia</name>
<borders>

  <border>Kenya</border>

<coordinates>
  <smallx>424</smallx>
  <smally>213</smally>
  <largex>569</largex>
  <largey>277</largey>
</coordinates>
<neutral>6</neutral>
</country>

Finally, there won't be updates for about a week and a half, as I will be on vacation. Feel free to continue to post, but I won't be back until June 10th.

what's with all these abstract maps? the stands are just boxes and are pretty boring. i don't know what other people think about it, but i don't really like the idea

This isn't as abstract as some of the other maps. The ones I really don't like are the symmetrical maps (no offense to any mapmakers out there).

Okay, the boxes might be boring, but I would like to keep the map as close as possible to its representation. Take a look at pretty much any stadium, baseball or otherwise, and the stands are pretty much boxes. That's the reason for this.

New update comming soon!

Awesome...

one thing ... I think you need 1 extra baseball on the upper deck.....since almost every other area Of similar value can be attacked by the batter.. What do you think?

A batter attack to the upper deck didn't cross into my mind, but it does make sense. Thanks.

No Prob

Post by Keredrex »

No Problem.. I would say probably 311... That way the upper deck is still defending the same borders.... 5 - I believe for a 7 bonus sounds correct to me....

Perhaps I'm the only person with this problem, but the word "batter" is very hard to see on the map and on the legend. Is there any way you could make that more readable, i.e. white text or a lighter brown background?

Other than that, great map, you've executed well on a great idea.

I love this idea. It would be fun to play. However, I would like to see some kind of background. Also, will there be copyright issues with the ESPN space?

Or map ideas that include fighting on a pencil or a brick wall (LANDGRAB SUCKS SO BAD IT IS NOT EVEN FUNNY!)
