But a majority of us are, and this is becoming a more important holiday every year. :( We have to remember the soldiers that sacrifice their lifes to ensure our freedom.

that is only the case with world war II, unfortunately at the moment in the USA that the troops are not sacrificing themselves to ensure "your freedom" but instead the freedom of Iraqis and the policy in Iraq has probably actually resulted in the danger of terrorist attack in the USA far greater from terrorist organisations like Al'Quaeda. Bush wants to illustrate his military muscle by getting involved with far out disputes in middle east countries and he is also out there for the oil. Unfortunately, America as a whole is in more danger thanks to recent wars and whilst I do believe you should remember the brave men that go out to fight, you must also remember that they have died because of a militaristic gun-ho president and vote democrat if you want to prevent further tragedies from occurring.

I think he meant that it may be confusing to non-Americans like the Aussie's post that aren't familiar with today's calendar sigficance can be confused, so I didn't take offense at his comment - but there's a definite reason why it wasn't typed in German and that's what we celebrate today - those who made the ultimate sacrifice...

It may be an American observed Holiday, but the idea should transcend geographical borders and each Nationality should be greatful to their own fallen soldiers and not just take it for granted...

I didn't mean only WWII I just meant that as a main example, I was more making a point about the Iraq War

WWI un-necessary :P study history at university and you will find out

ACW necessary helped get rid of some of those scummy slave-owners in the south

Not sure about the revolutionary war, was colonial rule really that bad?

just raising a few points :P sorry for interfering in your memorial thread

we dont need a debate or anything.....this is an easy concept. Wherever you live, you have to respect the men and women who risk their lives no matter the situation.

sorry but thats a flawed statement.. if a nutter risked his lives to kill a load of innocent civilians he would not have my respect. I know what you meant I just wanted to point that out

I take no offense at your comments at all...

I have two rules though:

1. I never talk politics
2. I don't take anything in life for granted

Therefore, I won't discuss Iraq at all and I was just stating that today means more to me than just not going to work for a multitude of reasons...

That said - please excuse me while I go kick some ass in Middle Earth...

...and those that have fallen already gave everything they had. They didn't get caught up in the politics or arguments...they just simply served. Outstanding people and definitely worth remembering.
