Also seen people complain in sunny games  not much you can do if those complaining don't actually understand what they're complaining about in the first place :D

the only people who don't seem to care about the fog rule are the same bitches
who intentionally wait to join the game last so they can take the turn asap, deny
the opponent the chance to see the drop, create a little bit of advantage, cowardly
bitches from first to last. because of douchebags like that invites are missed because
people don't wanna join the game first.

fuckin cowards from first to last - f*ck you all cunts

I don't care about the fog rule but I always give the other player the opportunity to look at the map before I go, and appreciate the friendly gesture when someone does the same for me. That's in 1v1. If I'm in a big game with a bunch of random assholes I don't know, who will eventually break a truce and stab me in the back anyway (which is usually), then I'll just take my turn right away if I'm lucky enough to go first. Plus it's less of an issue the more players are on the board.

On the other hand, if snaps are now an integrated part of this site, then every player should get an auto-snap whenever any game starts. If this were an in-person game of Risk that was somehow able to implement fog, of course all players would get a look at the board before the first person moved. That's why.

The gift that keeps on giving....:)

Nonetheless, I think he's right: Now that we have autosnaps, it is very logical that they should be triggered when the game is initialized, not on your first turn. That would eliminate 100% of the fog-rule/no fog-rule arguments.

I do like to get a snap, and if it's a tournament game I usually offer a snaps agreement to my opponent. However, if he declines, I don't lose any sleep over it.

Same here, am i so desperate to have that advantage? Can i just be pollite anf offer my enemy a view of the board before i go?Yes i can. Thats just a matter of education and politeness

Good thing no one in this thread ever called showing courtesy bullshit, but thanks for playing.

As the fog rule is directly about showing courtesy, I will respectfully disagree with your statement. You, in fact, were the first person in this thread to call it bullshit. Carry on...

Thanks, I shall carry on.

I still maintain that it's bullshit, and I'll explain myself. Back when I used to play games, more than one or two at a time, I never took a turn that had more than 12 hours on it. Even if I was the last to join, and it was a foggy game, I never took my turn right away. Because of this, I was always automatically "courteous". So for that, you can go back to thinking highly of me, and I can feel all warm and fuzzy knowing that you think I'm nice. My comment is directly related to the whiny and pathetic on this site, who treat not getting a snap in a foggy game as a gigantically huge deal. Because the other part of my gameplay was, even when I join a foggy game last, and despite using BOB, I'd NEVER go in and take a snap. I'll use it during the game sometimes, if I felt it was an especially close game and would help, and I'd still get decent results, or at least, results I was comfortable with. Whiny people, those who think it should be an automatic rule, and who abuse others who don't follow this "rule" or call them "less than courteous", are bullshit wankers and should shut up. And again, why bother with fog then? Just play sunny games so you can know exactly what your opponent is doing. Or just grow up, stop being a crybaby, and play the game.

Happier?

Bollocks.

So you agree that is an act of politeness, but then you are just whinning over the whinners, arent you?
Kind of looking at something to whinne for. That might define you as a pollite whinner

Although both side's arguments are respectable, the reality is that without a fog rule, two strange elements are introduced into play.
1. The last player to join may get an advantage if he plays immediately. So, a player is encouraged to play his turn...fast in order to gain an edge
2. For an opponent, having or having not seen the map before the turn, influences the chances he wins the game. If it happened he had time to see the map, then his chances are 46%, if not, his chances are 38%. This is...at least strange, to have the outcome influenced by the random fact of whether one was online when the game started.
So, although there is nothing wrong with a more ...random game, it makes more sense to allow opponent a chance for a glance at the board
