Yikes, Fleury with a typical Fleury play. Doesn't matter, Dupuis, Did and Maatta all look great.

Ha ha ha, that's no funny.
It's quite possible.
But funny never the less.
Wouldn't it really be funny if they do win and get their name spelled wrong on the cup? "PENWINS"
(Hey the line for 1980-1981 has "NEW YORK ILANDERS".)

Re: NHL 14-15
Wings and Leafs again tonight. I'm holding out hope for a classic Detroit v Toronto playoff matchup.

Toronto isn't very good. They'll be lucky to sneak into the playoffs.
Oh and Hornqvist and Spaling for Neal is a steal of a trade. Hornqvist's style of play is what we needed so badly...someone that gets to the net and forces goalies to give up rebounds.

I know. Part of me wishes they were better though. Detroit and Toronto played some great series back in the 80's.

Toronto has been laughable my whole life, it was weird seeing them be good two years ago.

We'll never have great series again with the dumb shootout.

Re: NHL 14-15
I rarely watch NHL games. I'm on the ice myself most days of the week either playing or officiating and I get hockey overload. I actually have a day off today, but will be on the ice for 7 days straight starting Tuesday.
If the Leafs make it to the playoffs, I'll watch all their playoff games. Other than that, I'll watch about 5-10 minutes a week and catch the highlights on the sports channel.
Shootouts in playoffs? Really?!?!?!

I was talking about basic home-and-home regular season series. Keep it in context, people. Leafs fans try not to think about the playoffs.
Speaking of which, I forgot to tell you that Penglosers have the NHL Regular Season Championship Belt since they took it from the Islanders.

So I was bored last night (and when I mean bored I mean bored). Wound up watching the Flames burn the Jets.
On the other hand, I just want to say, for as long as the feeling lasts ....
The Islanders are leading the Metropolitan division with a 4-1 Record.
They play Toronto tomorrow, looks like another win, eh?

Hopefully the shootout will almost completely go away if they implement 3 on 3 in OT. I'd much rather see some pond hockey and a game won in overtime than going to a shootout.

I agree. I would actually prefer to see a 5 minute 5-on-5 sudden death overtime and then a tie if it is not settled.
Shootouts are such a small part of a regular hockey game (ie. penalty shots) that I never liked the idea of a shootout. I would have preferred fights at centre ice. Or open ice hits.

Take the letters/numbers after the "=" in the address, and put around it.
Also, totally agree about ties; bring them back!

Some guys whose mascot goes around in a tux, I think. If I recall they play a short distance away from Carnegie Mellon University.
The score was 3-1. That team is currently third behind the Capitals in the Metropolitan Division.

said team has a better winning percentage than the Caps. They've just played fewer games.

I didn't realize how much I wasn't keeping track of things in the off season. I didn't realize that they fired Adam Oates back in April.
That's HALL OF FAMER Adam Oats
That's RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ALUMNI Adam Oats
So really, it's just a fluke that they are currently in second. I mean if the Rangers hadn't received the CURSE OF THE TUTE by sending RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ALUMNI Ryan Haggerty to the minors they might be number one right about now.

I watched the Taylor Hall penalty shot yesterday, and it was unexciting. I remember they used to be completely awesome because they were so rare, and the shootout part of the All-Star Skills Competition was fun to watch. But now the shootout in regular games has made penalty shots mundane.
In my mind, they should play 2 OT periods - 5 minutes 4 on 4 and 5 minutes 3 on 3. If it's still tied, we go to a shootout.
You get 3 points for a win in regulation, 0 for a loss. 2 points for a win in OT, 1 point for a loss. 1 point for a win in a shootout, 0 for a loss.
I am actually a fan of not having ties. I like that every game has a winner, even if it is through a shootout, but the points system should encourage teams to go for the win in regulation or overtime. As it stands now, it's worth playing for the tie late in regulation and picking up one point, then getting the "bonus" in OT, and it completely skews the standings as some games are worth 3 points and some are worth 2. Nothing worse than watching 2 of your home team's rivals play to a tie and each pick up a point, then one get the extra.
