As we consolidate more Game Settings, many have felt that there are simply "too many options" and that many new players are overwhelmed. There is even a possibility of discussion of something along the lines of this behind closed doors. But first, we want to hear from you. What maps should/shouldn't be included in "Basic" Game Settings? Gameplay Settings? How long should this be set as a standard in a player's career? How will we incorporate it into the website without messing up the current screen? How will we market advanced settings to newcomers as a reward to stick around for?
Concise description:
- This is an official, community developed suggestion made to promote the creation of a "Basic" Game Settings "Start a Game" Page or anything pertaining to the idea of limiting options to prevent overwhelming new players and added simplicity for older ones.
Specifics/Details:
- This page would take the form of a tab, much like bot games, as a simplified version of popular settings for new players and old players alike.
- This tab would be set as the default, with an option in the Settings to make the "Start an Advanced Game" tab your default
- There would also be an option similar to this that is applicable to the Game Finder page
- A checkbox/link would be available on the "Join A Game" Page to filter advanced games, with the text "Show Advanced Games". Advanced games would be filtered out as a default (checkbox unchecked), but once it has been checked it will stay that way until marked otherwise by the user, even if logged out or switching to a different computer or device.

Items in this color are still considered debatable

- No Spoils: Since many players are looking for a quick, easy game, it may be best to hide this setting as it will lead to frusturation and/or stalemates
- Fog: This is possibly advanced setting that new players may struggle with, especially if they have never played Risk or some version of it before.
- Many Debatable Maps: These maps are huge, and if a new player wants a quick game, this may not be the best choice as these maps will take a while. Case-by-case basis. Some, such as Balkan Peninsula, were simply noted because of possibilities of confusion by bonus regions.
- Random Map: While it is nice, this could lead players into getting a map that is complex and confusing until there is a way to limit this option (this limitation may become a part of this suggestion in the future).
Discuss!
*As a note- there is a nice little thread set up of merged "suggestions" that are in actuality complaints about the system. Please do not contribute any "doomsaying" or anything that distracts or detracts from the conversation or I will happily redirect your post there. This is a suggestions area to create a new system, not an extra area to complain. We are trying to fix things and negativity doesn't help too much
