my opinion is tht is not going to be. there is a china map in progress and i don't think even if you attach more territories it will be better, i must suggest another theme.
there are hundreds of good ideas and no mapmakers willing to take them, try looking around the threat about "map ideas..."

its that way^^^ :wink:

You have my support. This map looks like it could have some potential. Maybe you need to give it a different flavour set in your particular era of Chinese history.

On a separate note, I would like to see a decent Russia map. Can someone make a Russia map please?

Regardless of the other China map I think this one is pretty cool too and I like to be able to play it in the future.

edit: Working on the art...any comments?

Image

Here's my first attempt at a map. Let me know what you think before I go on. Of course, any comments/suggestions are welcome.

Right now I'm just wondering about playability. It'll be completely redrawn.

Thx,
LC

i like it...i was thinking last week that vancouver is laid out to be a great map.

-id rotate it like 3 degrees CCW so all those angles going left to right are horizontal.
-white text needs either a border or a shadow
-youre going to need to increase the size of some of the islands even if its not accurate (ex anna island is too small, no room for armies) same with new west something cant read it and no room for armies
-id make all the borders a more neutral color like black, green clashes with some colors and doesnt show up in some (like the dark green continent in the SE)
-legend should have shadows, outlines, or a background to make it stand out
-you need a title and a signature

great start though!

Some more neighborhood reference maps:

For continents, I'd suggest some or all of the following:

* Add part of the eastside. The floating bridges make natural connections.
* Split magnolia from central/downtown. Downtown will likely be a wasteland, but magnolia will be fairly defensible, especially if you limit the bridges.
* Divide north seattle into northeast and northwest/ballard. The natural dividing line is the I-5 freeway.

Something like this:

All good ideas. What about adding some of the stuff on the western side of the sound, like Mercer Island, etc..?

There's a total of 37 countries. I can add/subtract if I need to. Oh, and the blue lines are impassable borders.

So here's what I'm thinking for bonuses.

Red = 4
Orange = 4
Green = 3
Purple = 3
Brown = 2
Yellow = 6

I'm not that great with advanced graphics, but I'll see what I can pull off. I'll have some more free time in a week or two.

As for XML, I haven't had the chance to fiddle around with that yet. I have no previous experience, but I'm willing to give it a shot.
