Pushing borders - best of 3 - Winner: jonofperu

Post by SiriusCowKing »
This is called pushing borders.

Each player starts with 4 virtual territories. They form a circle being neighbor with the player above you and under you in the player list, the order will be randomized at the start of the tourney. Each round, every player fight their neighbors in 3x1v1 games. The player who wins 2 out of 3 games steals a territory from his neighbor.

There is also a special neutral territory in the middle of the virtual map which everyone are neighbor to. Each round, every player alive will also fight for the middle in 1 freestyle 20 rounds limit game. The winner of the battle for the middle will control it, which gives him the power to bombard a player next round. The player must to choose a target and attempt to bombard him, which will be done in a single 1v1 game. If the bombarding player wins the 1v1, the target loses a territory which cannot be gained back. There is no penalty for failing a bombardment.

At the end of each round, each player loses 1 territory. When a player loses all his territories, he is out of the tournament. There is also a round limit of 8 in case this drags on. The player with the most territories, or the last one to survive, at the end of round 8 wins the tournament.

Specific rules:

When a player drops from the tournament or loses all his territories, his 2 neighbors become neighbors themselves, closing the virtual circle. This makes it unnecessary to have players in reserve.

When a player hold for the middle ground he will bombard someone next round. During the next round there will still be the fight for the middle ground and this game can happen at the same time than the game for the bombardment, the 2 are not conflicting with each other.

If there are only 2 players left alive, they will border each other to the right and to the left, meaning that they will fight 2x3 games each round to try to steal territories from each other. They will also fight the freestyle battle for the middle ground, and the winner will try to bombard the other player next round. This means that they will fight a total of 8 games with each other every round until the end of the tournament.

If a player holds no territory at the end of a round but won the middle ground, he is not eliminated. He will still be alive as long as he win the next fights for the middle ground.

If there are more than 12 players alive in the tournament, the middle ground will be split into 2 territories. The players will also be split into 2 groups and fight into 2 separate freestyle games. The winner of each game will be entitled a bombardment as usual, meaning that there will be 2 bombardments. The bombardments can be done to any player, it doesn't have to be someone in your own group.

If the 2 top players have the same number of territories at the end of round 8, They will fight in one last set of 3 games to determine who is the winner. The settings of those games will be the same as all the 1v1 games. In case of 3 or more players with the exact same territory count at the end of round 8, there will be a single tie breaker game with the same settings than all the 1v1 games but with more players. The middle ground is included in the territory count at the end of round 8. This also applies if everyone who's left are eliminated at the end of the round due to losing a territory at the end of the round.

If a player owns only 1 territory and both his neighbors win the game against him, they both gain a territory. Which mean that a territory is created.

I used only 6 players in the example to make things simpler.
