Yes. CC is declining. I almost quit playing recently. Mostly because I am frustrated that I am waiting for 100 games to start, and currently am playing only 19. This would have been unheard of a few years ago.

I attribute CC's decline mostly to the fact that under Game Finder, bringing up newer games first in the list is set as the default. Big, big, big mistake! That factor alone makes it so that games fill slowly if at all. If bringing up the older games first is the default setting -- and I think keeping the option of bringing up newer games first is probably okay -- this issue of having to wait so long for games to fill would go away on its own and make CC a much better site.

The other major contributor to CC's decline is that the options and number of maps have grown too numerous. This makes things very confusing, even for us seasoned veterans. I can only imagine how overwhelmed newcomers, or those under the age of say 14 or 16, must feel! Don't misunderstand me. The fact that numerous maps and options are there can be wonderful as you grow more sophisticated in CC. However, to make things less intimidating to newcomers, there needs to be a "Conquer Club Lite" feature, which would be the default setting for fremiums and paid memberships for the first 90 or 120 days. There can be a setting for advanced options if a paid member wishes for them. I am just saying CC Lite needs to be the default.

CC Lite would have fewer maps, perhaps just the 25 most popular, and fewer options up and down the panel, something similar to what the options were five years ago. Playing in CC Lite and getting used to that before moving on to all these options and non-intuitive (in other words, not like the Risk game) newer maps would draw in players and keep CC growing.

My two cents, for what they're worth.

- ...Game Finder, bringing up newer games first in the list is set as the default.
-.... the options and number of maps have grown too numerous.

+1

Options i don't think matter as much, def too many maps though. purge the least played 10 maps and if nobody cares/notices purge some more.
Add option for 2 month premuim for $5 for people 2ho want to try it out first.

other problems:
-Revamp map list selection box on game finder, not resizable, multiple selections require ctrl or shift, cant save/reuse previous search selections or other game finder settings.
- Rankings system strongly favor high numbered playered games; so 2, 3, 4 player games are created less and adds to: "I almost quit playing recently. Mostly because I am frustrated that I am waiting for 100 games to start, and currently am playing only 19. This ..."

THEN

AND NOW...

Now seeing this, some would say the glass is more empty than full now,
but I say, it's simply that the amount of air in the bottle is increasing!

Some would say the most notable difference was that the plastic bottle turned into a glasss bottle.

Here's some more air for you, 11304.

used waybackmachine.com (archive.org) and on JULY 5, 2008 there were 23,245 ranked users. hows that for a summer lull [sarcasm]. It's sad and i don't want this website to disappear.

...that said, why would CC disappear? First year up there was less than 8000. So why take it down? domains costing more?
