Hello, and welcome to my very first Tournament here on Conquer Club! This concept will not be new to any Football (Soccer) fans on here and I wouldn't be surprised if there had already been a Champions League themed Tournament on here.
For those unfamiliar with the Champions League I'll describe how my slightly edited version will run. The Tournament will begin in a Group Stage format, with 8 Groups containing 4 players each. In these Groups you will play each opponent twice, once on your Home Map, and once on theirs, each win awards the player 3 points while a loss gathers you nothing. When all players have finished their 6 games, the top 2 from each Group will advance to the Knockout stage.
In the event of 2 players being on level points with all games finished they will enter into a decider on the Map of the Final (Portugal), if 3 are on level points it will be a three-way match with only the Winner advancing (if this is between 2nd, 3rd and 4th only, if it is between 1st, 2nd and 3rd the first to be eliminated is out, the two will then play to decide who wins the Group). If, by some insane reason, all 4 teams are on level points their will be a 4-way decider, with the first two eliminated out of the Competition, the two survivors will then play for 1st and 2nd spots.
The importance of winning the Group is that Group winners can only be drawn against Runners up from other Groups, giving them a (usually) better chance of reaching the Quarter-Finals. From that moment on though, the draw is completely randomised.
To determine the Groups, when signing up post your score as of entering this. I will then split the entrants into Groups of 8 depending on their score (1st seeds will be the 8 highest scores, 4th seeds will be the 8 lowest scores, etc). Then, i these groups you will be given a number 1-8 then Random.org will decide what Group you are placed in. This happens with all the seeded groups until the 8 Groups have been fully drawn.
In the Knockout Stage it's a Two-Legged tie between you and your opponent, one at your Home Map, one at your Opponents. If the end result is 1-1 the player who won with fewer rounds played in his winning match advances to the next round, I understand this could be a risky rule but I'm sticking to it and hopefully it leads to a bit of excitement, knowing you have to push forward and win as fast as possible, no sitting back a la Chelsea!
The Final, just like in real life will be held at the Estadio da Luz (Basically, Portugal) and the result will be Final. No 2nd legs, no dubious 'rounds played' rule, if you win, you win. If you lose, unlucky and better luck next time!
