AndyDufresne wrote:Steam had the "Doom: BFG" edition on sale for 5 bucks. I liked Doom 1, and Doom 2 back in the day, and I remember I did play some of Doom 3 about 10 years ago as well, so I figured I'd pick up the bundle with all the expansions as well. So I'll probably play that today.

And then maybe I'll play some Octodad: Dadliest Catch too...

Doom 3 was one of the best FPS games I've ever experienced. I played with low lighting and very little distractions and sometimes it got really creepy.

Thanks for the heads-up, Andy...I just bought the expansion pack for $1.74!

Highly recommended.

GOG is having some mega sales -- and bunch of flash sales as well: http://www.gog.com/

You can get the games DRM free.

I've got my browser up on another screen, keeping an eye on any interesting flash sales. FTL, which I already own, went for $3.39

Lately, I haven't had much urge to play video games, console or pc. Why? It just feels they have lost their entertainment value. At least I have books and mst3k videos to fall back on, and the occassional Nostalgia Critic video (Nostalgia Chick is back!).

I'm going through a bit of the same thing. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that my "game machine" is also the machine that I use to take care of my baseball responsibilities, and with baseball season starting, I always have work to do on this PC.

I haven't played Skyrim in about a month!

The game I am currently playing an hour here and there is Far Cry 2. It might be due to the lack of steady playing time, but I'm not feeling a real connection to my character. Or any character, for that matter. And the game play is only so-so. At this point, it's not a game I would recommend.

Humble Bundle is having a daily bundle for the next week and half or so. The current one (which doesn't interest me) ends in about an hour or so. Maybe the next one will be more interesting? https://www.humblebundle.com/

I tend to burn out on games too, but probably not as much as I use to, since I spend my free time doing things take take up my gaming time too. Ha. I also usually having some other game lined up to take over the place of a burned out game. Right now I just finished the first Episode of Doom 1, and I'll probably play all the way through Doom 1 and 2 again -- since I haven't played these for ages. And then eventually I'll get to 3, since I've played that more recently, only maybe half a decade or so ago. And I'm caught up on Telltale's Walking Dead season 2 now -- but I've got another indie adventure game "The Inner World" that I'll probably pop-in this weekend. And I've been playing a little Banished too.

Then I'll re-evaluate my steam wish list, and see if anything is on sale.

Andy, how many hours in a typical week do you play video/computer games?

Not very many unfortunately in the grand scheme -- at least during the weekdays. A handful if I am lucky during the week. On the weekend it depends on what else I've got to do, but usually find something.

Like yesterday, I played one level from Doom 1's second campaign, which was about 30 minutes since I was going for full completion.

So you buy all these games but you don't play them more than like 30 minutes each?

No, I mean I feel completely burned out on video games. I've barely touched them for about a week now. The only times I have were futile moments where, after 5 minutes in, I just shut the game off.

There was a time, maybe around 2009 or 2010, when I stopped playing any games. But then realized I really did enjoy them, so I picked them up again a few years later, and I've never looked back.

I'll go, like, 6 months or more sometimes without playing video games. Then I'll play some for a while and quit again because I get bored. It took me almost 4 years to beat Dead Space.

I played Return to Castle Wolfenstein not too long ago...it was dated, but still fun. I'll be looking at getting the new one once I can get it on sale for below $10. There are so many great games only a few years old for such a bargain...

Good thing for guys like you who buy them when they're new so the game developers make their money. If everyone were as cheap as me,the industry would fall apart.

I pretty much buy all my games, but most of the time I wait until a sale occurs, since I usually don't need any particular game right away. The only game I've torrented was Vice City, back in the day.

Well, I obviously take back what I said. I stopped pirating games software about 25 years ago.

Cyber content is different; it's non-rivalrous. Once I download it, it's not like yours no longer exists. Instead, we get two--as oppose to theft which results in one.

I haven't been a big fan of intellectual property rights--specifically patents. I view movies, music, and games as all 'try before you buy', and if I really like it, I'll send a check or see them live or what not. Cuts out the unnecessary middlemen.

I played Doom 1 over the weekend. Got in a few levels. I'm in the 3rd campaign now. I just finished dusting off my circle-strafing skills to take on the Cyberdemon at the end of the 2nd campaign.

Oddly enough, Guitar Hero is kind of getting me back into things. Only problem is, is that my copies of World Tour and Legends of Rock are damaged. Still have Guitar Hero 3 though.

Still can't use more than the first 3 buttons though.

Also, Humble Bundle has a nice sale going for EU4 for 9.99, and CK2 for 19.99. Steals. FTL with the free upgrade to advanced edition for 6.66 (though you might be able to get cheaper eventually elsewhere). Plus lots of others.
