2. be extremely selective with whom you become friends. you don't have 538 friends in real life, do you? i've got exactly 23 permanent friends on facebook and that's just fine. on rare occasions i add people temporarily and remove them when i no longer need to have contact with them.

Concur with ABP, but I recommend Ghostery instead of DNTMe as DNTMe started doing some really stupid shit with links and email fields which is really annoying and can't be turned off (or couldn't last I checked).
