Some maps are cursed

Post by DiM »

i'm sure all of you have maps that bring only bad luck but also maps where they are blessed. feel free to share your stories.

here's my horror story for siege! i played 2 games on siege. the very first game was actually the very first game ever played on this map. i was excited as i was in the same team with mibi (the author of the map) and i was sure we'll win cause he knew the map perfectly.

but then the crappy dice started acting up on us. yes both of us and at the same time the other team won every battle with few or no losses while we struggled to kill one army terits. we hope the cards would save us. what do you know, the others got only mixed sets and we got the crappy sets. you know what the crappy sets are? well those are the sets where you after 4 turns you have no set but there's a chence you might get that mixed set in the fifth turn but instead you get another red card and on top of that you don't own any of the terits for extra bonus. while we had crappy sets the others got mixed sets with extra bonuses for terits. we totally got owned.

then today i wanted a realtime game. found 3 other players and started a team game. goodcomunication and starting positions led to a really really strong position for my team. i had throne and great hall and my mate got woods camp and the gate. the others had just the river camp for a tiny bonus of 1. we were clearly in the lead when bad luck kicked in. my mate lost a battle were he had almost twice the army. then round 4 came and everything went to hell. we did not have a set and the other team both got mixed sets.
and the climax was reached when i was forced to exchange my green set for fear of elimination and tried to take back great hall. so 11 troops in the throne vs 1 in great hall 1. what do you think happened? i lost 9 troops. managed to get great hall but with the cost of 9 troops. then the other team came and took my 6 1 army terits with only one loss. come on i lose 9 troops trying to kill one and they lose only one trying to kill 6.

the conclusion is i will never play siege again. it's a nice map but i've never had such bad luck on any other map and it's not just about my bad luck it's also about the fact that the others have really good luck.

I must agree, my cursed map is CCU

Evidence:

Game 1 I was still a private then, so you can blame my lack of experience
Game 2 I was a major by then, so I started believing in bad luck
Game 3 After 300 games played I thought I could have a chance..

I agree that my view of a map is directly correlated to how many times I have won or lost on it. I seem to do well on British Isles, Classic and Middle Earth but cannot win for love or money on Europe or USA. Hopefully there will be a reversal of fortune on the bracket tournament :D

I keep getting killed on World 2.1. It's too big to decide on a strategy for me.

I've played and lost 3 on CCU (standard and teams), even when I had excellent position/teammates. So what did I do? Joined a triples at CCU against johnny rocket, Bjork and SkyT.... Its Seq., No Cards, Chained, so it should be interesting.

I don't have any "good" maps yet, I haven't been here long enough for that. My (very) few wins have been scattered and lucky.

For me, Middle Earth, Europe, Arctic, Tamriel and Discworld are all very kind. However, certain other maps, such as the British Isles, are ones on which I have won very rarely. I'm not too friendly with Philippines either.

This is the sort of thread where I'm really tempted to say something really unkind about Discworld...

But I won't.

Siege has been messing with me, tho... It's fun, but it's a bit too much like KotM, where with so many bonuses the drop becomes super-important...

I liked it, partly because I won my first game on that one.

LIAR I love discworld and am disappointed to see so few games of it. Unfortunately, I'm too lazy to start up a game and then wait for god-knows-who to join up and way to lazy to organise a private game. As a result, I am undefeated in all of my few games on Discworld

Fair play to you Robinj.

I've played eight games on Discworld and won only one of them and that was a trips game that was a near enough certain win.

So no def not my favourite.

Well... The Discworld map... could have been better. There I'm being nice. I've played a some, won a few, lost a few. And I just don't like it. Two huge continents next to each other don't make sure that noone will easily get one, on the contrary, they make sure than someone will get at least one. With all the small ones next to each other people will start fighting and suddenly someone else is holding Klatch and "Unnamed" and will steamroll the game.

I am currently playing 8 Thoughts with five other friends (first time on this map for all of us). This is the epitome of a cursed map. ALL SIX OF US ARE ROLLING DICE FROM HELL!!!

No one can do anything on this map. It is truly a cursed map.

8 thoughts
Seige (so far)
King of the Mountain ( Cant stand it)
Crossword
Middle East

These maps I find it extremely hard to get a foothold unless you started with a good position. Therefore you just tend to wait for someone to eliminate you.

I can't win on Europe or Alexander's Empire. I join those games fully expecting to lose, but you gotta try!
