They gave it to the wrong person then. You should have gotten 2. I would file a report in the bugs.

Here comes some sitting abuse!

i ran out of turns to play and really want some more of these "special stars". so i logged off, and then on, and then again, and again, and again, and again....well you get the point. i now have 10 more stars.

i hope they change the rule on transferring them as i have been trying to figure out how to play this game for my job since i joined. I tried the sponsor route but Hasbro has yet to acknowledge my letters, phone calls, emails, and carrier pigeons. I could see setting up an online marketplace as these are going to be in demand!

There must be a Chinese company somewhere willing to sponsor you! And if you find one put a good in for me mate. I would greatly appreciate it.

No mate just a weird hat and a dodgy beard. ;)

i just posted this in my clan forum as we are discussing this a bit. here is how it should have been done if you ask me

"i have made fun of the inventory in the public forum. i could understand if they were a prerequisite for a tournament..say u needed 10 of "X" stars to enter into a quads tournament and the only way to get the "X" stars were from winning quads games or team games or something...that way you had to accomplish something to get into a tournament. the different colors could be sorted based on settings...maybe a color for escalating games, another for terminator...and so on.

so a tournament that requires a quads team with escalating sets would "cost" stars from escalating games and teams games. as of right now, i think i have 6 or so stars from doing absolutely nothing...pretty pointless if you ask me."

Well, you've gotten lucky. Myself, I have gotten no stars at all from doing absolutely nothing. Except for that first free one that everybody got, all my stars have come from either joining or winning games.

As for the different colours meaning things, I suspect they do. As BW said, a regular game is twice as likely as a tournament game to give you a star. I suspect there are tons of other rules like that which are deliberately hidden. Maybe an escalating game is twice as likely as a non-escalting game to give you a violet star. Maybe a trench game is twice as likely as a non-trench game to give you a a green star, or whatever. It will take a long time for people to figure out all the hidden rules (which is intentional) but eventually you will see that there are hidden rules there.

For now, the highest star I have is a silver, and I got that for winning a 12-player game, so I suspect the number of players you beat also has a bearing on the level of star that a game gives you.

BEST THEORY THUS FAR!!!!

Post by owenshooter »

ok... this makes total sense to me now, thank you Suicidal!!! idea swiped from another site and being tinkered with to fit CC's needs. from SS's post it seems like this could be a pretty cool thing for a lot of us that have been around for a long time... i am fully expecting a "rare" one of these bobbles for having received and survived two 6 month forum suspensions :D :D :D ... i applaud for CC for changing things up and trying something new...-0

SuicidalSnowman wrote:I haven't kept too up on this, but Valve has an inventory for its Steam game platform.

You earn cards, which can be traded and sold, and eventually leveled up into Badges, which then can become something else?

Anyways, they don't in themselves do anything, but they exist as a secondary currency. People trade them and some item sell for $250 on a marketplace, unfortunately all that money is in your "steam wallet" which you can only use to buy more games with.

The Vale model is generally that the longer you play a game, the more likely you are to earn items and the more rare (and thus valuable) they will be. It is basically a loyalty program, but with an element of chance. In Valve's example, the sometimes give them for unique events, for example recently if you watched a world championship round while using Valve's client to do so, you had a chance of earning an incredibly rare item.

This seems to be handled, so far, similarly. The fact that it is called Inventory, which is straight up the name of the Steam items, is telling. Valve is famous as being a gaming company with an economist on staff, and has been experimenting with a lot of different hooks to keep people playing. The items are sort of like a slot machine. Psychology has long established that the random, intermittent reward pattern is the most addicting. Think slot machines. You pull the lever, and your win is 'random' and intermittent (based on time or number of tries, not skill or input). This looks like a pretty similar system, at least for the common ones. You keep playing games (on the help page it says the more opponents, the better) and you keep randomly winning awards. If they truly are able to be exchanged for tourney entries or rewards, perhaps they can have a value equivalent.

Either way though, it is pretty clear that this is a way of building loyalty and use of this website. Although I would love to see some more creativity, I am glad that at least Wham et al is copying from the best. Valve is currently a rare example of a company that has draconian restrictive policies and still has fervent customer loyalty and gratitude.

It says that large, public games are the best chances to win stars. I have a habit of joining a lot of 10+ public games.

Well, so am I, but even when I do, I get piss-poor results. Look at this game:
Game 13816767
2014-01-14 17:41:25 - poptartpsycho18 has won 1 Silver Conquer Star
2014-01-14 17:41:26 - Wes24601 has won 1 Silver Conquer Star
2014-01-14 17:41:26 - RabooeyRanbo has won 1 Silver Conquer Star
2014-01-14 17:41:26 - Dukasaur has won 1 Drab Conquer Star
2014-01-14 17:41:26 - Gabba hey has won 1 Violet Conquer Star
2014-01-14 17:41:26 - patrickaa317 has won 1 Electric Green Conquer Star
2014-01-14 17:41:26 - loenatiek has won 1 Violet Conquer Star
2014-01-14 17:41:26 - Shaqua Khan has won 1 Silver Conquer Star

Half the people get a silver star, most of the others get violet or green. What does Dukasaur get? Drab.

Yeah, drab, like my life. Maybe it's a hint.

Haha.

I did win an orange from a speed autotournament, though.

In my sleep I updated to:
2 cyan
5 orange
6 silver
4 violet
3 electric green
4 auburn
6 drab

I found a red star in the upper left corner of the website, but I can't drag it into my inventory. I'll keep trying, though.

I too would like to see something for long time users. Or people who have 15K+ games previously completed. Remember when HA had 1,250 active games at once? Think of how many stars he would have earned had they been active.
