It can be balanced up alot more.....
I will repeat it slowly and dont take it as critiscm. I would love to have peolpe commenting and helping me in my map ( but they just come and make stupid comment, never to be seen again).
If you start of with good starting position towards the allies you got to be stupid to lose the game....So why not to even it out abit, give the german continetns a bonus!!!!

That's like saying if you start with a good position in classic for asia you have to be stupid to lose the game. No one is going to sit around and let you hold all three ships.
Ultimately, I don't object to giving the German lands a small bonus, but I don't think it will make much of a difference and will just further increase the domination I've seen from players that start up strong in that area. Or maybe it will have the opposite effect and make it harder for players to get bunkers and artillery because the German land around it has value now beyond being the stuff that connects the strategic targets. I don't really know.

Its completely different...You cant compare classic map with Asia...I have never seen a person go straight away for Asia.
Its usually every1 dash for australia because bonus 2 and 1 border. Then you start your growth through Asis.
But fed up pushing the issue, if it works out not playable. I wont play it!!

Weren't you and johloh going to make your own D-Day map? Or was that someone else. I'd like to see it.

First of all, congrats on the map mibi and coleman... looks fantastic, and looks like it'll play well too...
But I have a question (as always, apologies is this has already been hashed out):
You seem to use the word "artillery" a bit too interchangeably, i.e. artillery is used for the bonus (which, I assume, is possessing the three territories for any given artillery position), yet also use the term artillery for attacking the red crosshairs. A small issue, yes, but one that holds the potential for confusion.
Also, the bonuses are cumulative, yes? Holding both artillery positions is 2+2+3, holding all bunkers is 2+2+2+4... You might want to put a note in the legend emphasizing such.
By and large, tho, this'll be a worthy addition to the site. As a amateur D-Day enthusiast (and having physically been to Omaha Beach in my youth), I am very excited to play this map.

Well the artillery bonus is for the same thing that can attack the cross hairs. right? Unless im not understanding you. You get the bonus for holding the 3 artillery positions. and artillery 3, the one with the gun depicted in the legend can attack the cross hairs. I dont think people will think they get the bonus fur just holding artillery 3 or think they can attack the beach from artillery 1. I could be wrong tho.
And yes the bonuses are cumulative. It would be kinda silly to think you get +2 +2 for holding two bunkers and +4 for holding all three. Doesnt quite make sense. I think the camp+gate bonus structure on the seige map was similar and even a bit more complicated and people seem to figure it out well.
Thanks for you comments and I hope the map does your d-day enthusiasm justice.

In additions to colemans coments I will also say that the ships bonuses might end up like the throne and great hall in siege. Everyone knows its a powerful area so even if you only have 3 armies in there you still make a bid for it. I have seen many games lost because too many players were fighting over the powerful areas while someone else picked up the scraps and dominated.
hulmey wrote:I was going to make my own D-Day (although mibi stole my idea)...
However, i think mibi can do a much better job graphically than i can. THat said, i still think u need to work on giving German continents bonuses!!!
We've made our case, you've made your case. Neither side is budging. I'm not sure what that means.
Anyway, I wouldn't let that stop you, there isn't anything wrong with having multiple maps about the same topic. I've always thought we should make more middle earth related maps since we have the permissions.

Final Forge
---The D-Day: Omaha Beach! Map has reached the ‘Final Forge’ Stage. I've revived this thread from the pits of the Foundry furnace and have examined the contents. Nearly every major concern has been addressed. If there are any other current concerns, please make your voice heard. There will be at least two days (but may extend pass that) for you to post any objections; if no one has posted any protest after two days the map will be deemed finished with the 'Foundry Brand' of approval and will be submitted for live play. If after two days there is still discussion going on it may continue until said discussion has reached the conclusion that the map has reached its final and polished version.
Post questions and concerns if any.

ya definitely good job.
Well its not the first time u wont budge on something and it wont be the last...
Would like to add though that i have heard alot of complaints about the gameplay of Siege. Could that be why it ain't doing so well?
i mean its all good and well saying its been tested by you and your boys but that doesnt mean anything really. Sometimes its better you let un-biased people take a look and then listen to what they have to say.

uh... what you hear is call anecdotal evidence. Siege is currently the 3rd most played map on the site, the only one of the new maps to move up a rank since the last CTM list, and the current 3rd most favorite map according to the map elimination thread. So there are some people, who are just fine with the game play. The game play btw, just might be the reason why it IS do so well.

I really like siege, but I don't think you can use that argument for it. Knowing XenCobra has voted at least 10 times for the same maps, it makes it a bit biased.
Anyhow, congrats on final forge again, I will definitly try this map as soon as it comes out

yeah that thread is retarded every which way you look at it. It still has 300 games on the next most play map however.

that thread is useless and retarded and the fact that siege has a lot of games going on is because it is new. so no arguement to support the fact that siege is a good map. or at least not now.
if after 2-3 months siege will still be played a lot then we will be able to say it is great.
i like it. it's really good but to be frank i don't think it will ever surpass world 2.1 and there's no question it will never come even close to classic. which is a shame
it seems people aren't too open to new maps. anything that does not resemble classic is played for a while and then it slowly goes down.

Both 8 thoughts and San Francisco are also new. Siege has 300 more games than San Fran and 500 more than 8 thoughts. I think the CTM thread is a good indicator of people's enthusiasm. I expect it to drop in the rankings in a few weeks but so far it has an a successful initial run, more so than any of the new maps including KotM, Senate and Checkers. So an argument supports it's a good map, but I doubt it will ever surpass world 2.1 or classic in active games.

I'd join this tangent but someone is running around reporting me and everyone who happens to be involved for everything trying to get me forum banned.
I'm interested in what the initial response to this map will be community wise. I feel it is ready just the way it is now.

yes no doubt it is more successful than the other 2 maps but i was just pointing out that the real test is the test of time. if after 3 months it will have at least half of the games it has now then it will be a success. also ever thought of revamping siege after the new xml features are implemented? it could really use some of them.

lol you got a warning too?

If you would be so kind enough as to explain how you caluclated the maps in your other thread (which i find very interesting by the way).
a map gets 1 point per 100 active games. If a map has a score of 10 it has at least 100 active games.
