Image

stuff i fixed:
spelling errors
bonus instructions for Lanthanide/actinides

OK, I would have liked to post this when you first started development but oh well didnt see it till now. I skimmed the thread so I don't know if it was brought up.

So instead of going so continant heavy, some of which are somewhat arbitrary, what if controlling a chemical formula gave you a bonus. Say you had Na and Cl, could be some bonus, it could go on and on of course, and some elements would be far more important than others, but it might be an interesting idea and provide a gameplay twist that moves this map from a clunky over exaggeration of a normal risk map into a unique new direction for maps. You could still have some continent bonuses but you could halso have a bonus for rust or whatever. I dunno something to think about?

i'm rather curious. from the poll it seems the map has a lot of fans. i'm not one of them for the following 2 reasons:

1. gameplay sucks
2. graphic is bad

I voted it would be ok, with TREMENDOUS work.

First of all, I like the idea suggested above. Throw some continents away, and get some chemical formulas in the run. Some popular ones:

NaCl
H2O
CO2

Wow...I can't think of any more...anyway...those might work ( Abviously...bonuses would be labelled ''HO'', but this also work. Same for CO.)

Ack! You fixed one spelling error and made another. It's Alkali Metals and Alkaline Earth Metals. The Earth ones are Alkaline. The others aren't.

Uhh.. Back on topic time. I don't hate the map, but I can't help feeling it could be better.

I agree
I like the Idea of the periodic table... but a few pages before i posted some links to images of the periodic table that i thought would make a great map.... I really can't help but think that those images would really work better

Here are a few links of another way to do the periodic Table map...

Isn't this idea really fun? What if the continents are not told, the people will have to know chemical formulas themselves, and each one they get right has 1 bonus. Perhaps to make it not to complicated compounds have maximum of 2 elements in them. I know this idea is crazy and complicated, but it will be whole lot of fun

i love the premise of this. as a chemistry student/buff, i'd love to see the inclusion of the periodic table on the site.

that being said, this needs work. It'd be really really hard to make this a map, so i commend your efforts.

The bonuses seem fair, but for your colours of the transition metals, you need a little more variety, shade it differently, so there's more of a distinction between the yellow-ey-green-ey shade you've used for the whole section. I know there aren't many colours to use, but make the yellow-greens more distinct.

Also, i've looked at other maps on this forum, and their graphics are fantastic. If this is to become a map, your graphics need to improve exponentially.

IMO.

When can we see an updated version with army numbers?

I will do that once the graphics and gameplay are finalized. since I'm not getting very many suggestions, it might be a while.

But I will still impliment the things that have been suggested so far.

I don't think that idea will work. there are HUNDREDS of element combinations, most of which you would end up getting by only pure luck. And for the skill part of the game, I dont want any parts of this map to require Chemistry knowledge. The people who have leared chemistry would have a huge advantage over those that haven't. I want to keep it so ANYONE can play it, regardless of how much chemistry they know.

you could get rid of some of the continent bonuses and then list some chemical formulas that you would get bonuses for so you wouldn't need to know anything. Any comment from the cartographer on this?

hmm...
I still want to keep the continent bonuses, but we may be able to decrease the continent bonuses and add a bonus of 1 to a few Compounds.
I will talk it over with sfhbballnut, since we are co-cartographers.

First off I love the idea, a periodic table would be awesome. This however needs some work.

1. It's really hard to see what everything is. I can tell continents by color but that is still shaky.
2. What the heck are the countries? Holy cow it's pretty much impossible to tell. Maybe different shades of blue for all the countries of one continent and reds for another I don't know, but it's hard to see.
3. There is a ton of text on a little area. I'm not sure how you want to fix that.
4. The background makes it really hard to tell the rest of it apart.

You guys are working hard, but this is just what I see. Also, I like the idea of Chemical equations as bonuses. Here are some more and some that have been listed.

NaCl
H2O
CO2
HCl
H2SO4
