Very meh midseason finale in my mind. I don't watch walking dead for what they ended up giving me. This might be the last season I watch.
Oh, and why the hell was Herschel wearing two boots in the opening? Did he regrow his leg or something?

What StrikeWolf said about the bullet proof zombies. Daryl goes from taking cover behind a bulletproof filing cabinet to finding a bulletproof zombie.
Herschel was a great character but I do think it was time he moved on ... I honestly could use a little break from the down-home country wisdom.
Tyreese amplifies what a giant pussy he's been all along ... in this episode, Tyreese is saved by a group of 10 year old girls. Last scene of Tyreese is him running after the girls yelling "hey, wait for me!"
overall I'm glad the prison is wrecked - it's about time they got back on the road; the road is where the good times are
final score - 9/10
IF I WERE RICK - With all the time on my hands while gardening I would salvage some mortars from a National Guard armory or something and set up a firing position a kilometer or two away so that if someone tried to force them out of the prison they could just fall back to their firing position and start dropping shells in the compound until the attackers had to abandon it, then they move back in. As easy as it is to get unlimited petrol I'm sure they could find some mortars. No one is thinking in the long-term. If anyone says shootin' and huntin' and fishin' are critical skills during the apocalypse but Project Management or Cost Accounting isn't, they don't know what they're talking about. TGD would basically be the Emperor of the Earth after the end of the world. And PhatScotty would be his gimp.

I'll give Tyreese some slack in that the woman was ex-military so she should know what she was doing...on the other hand, Daryl seemed to have more military discipline than anybody else there...He probably caused more damage to the governor's side than everyone else combined with those grenades.

I am skeptical because as Rick said bombing the prison would make it useless anyways. Honestly, I think where Rick was, if it wasn't for the sick,he might have been willing to abandon the prison.
Overall, I am satisfied with the finale as it puts them back on the road where most of the great moments of the show have happened. At this point, I am going to continue to talk about the inconsistencies in physics and other factors just cause it's fun to do so but ultimately accept them as part of the show. As long as they don't become overly ridiculous again like the collapsing ceiling.
From here: I am wondering about the gov's girlfriend and her sister. I am not sure if they will become allies of Rick's or if they will blame him, for the gov and the military woman's deaths. I'm kind of thinking the latter with maybe a later reconciliation. I imagine that Carol will become involved in the season again, though I am not sure how. I could easily see her becoming kind of an anti-hero/villain outside of the group but I could also see them continue to drag out Rick telling Daryl what happened only for him to find her zombified at some point down the road. Either way, I think Daryl is going to be pissed with Rick at some point. I am still leaning towards him trying to break off. They continued to show him taking a leadership type role within the group and he's always shown himself to be capable of not only defending himself but protecting others within reason.
Also. INFINITE AMMO!!!

Re: AMC: The Walking Dead (Season 3:SPOILER ALERTS!))
The benefit of having everyone on the road now and split up is that there are multiple different stories to tell without advancing the overall story (of course, maybe we don't care about the overall story advancing). We can spend an episode with Tyrese, a couple episodes with the Grimes boys, some Daryl episodes (maybe he finds Carol again), etc. I suspect that the Guv's girlfriend will pop up again (she was a wife in the show The Unit, so I can see her taking on a recurring role). And by then you're at the end of the season and the last episode has everyone reuniting.
For what it's worth, the Rick pleading with the Guv scene was outstanding. And the end result is the further devolution of Rick (in my opinion).
Also for what it's worth, I only care about physics and reality in passing with these types of shows. I will remark "yeah, like that could happen" and then move on. Something that does bother me is that so many non-zombies are killed in a given period of time that is becomes problematic for the human race. If we keep killing potentially fertile men and women (and if we assume that these things are happening all over the world, not just in the American south), we're pretty well fucked.

February? But I want it to carry on NOW!!!
Also, glad the Guvnah is dead as he was becoming too predictably stereotypical manipulator genius bad guy.
There are 5 (state) prisons in and around Atlanta - why did nobody chime in and just say "lets just go clear another one"?

Re: AMC: The Walking Dead (Season 3:SPOILER ALERTS!))
Best episode so far this season, but the writers/producers are sticking too close to the rules of storytelling. It makes the story too obvious for me.
>>>>>>
Carol was kicked out of the Prison. The gov is spying on the prison. The main characters will need to leave the prison to avoid a stagnation of the story. So it stands to reason that the Governor will destroy the prison and Carol will end up saving the group after they are forced back onto the open road. Tyreese will not be told about Carol, but it will be used as fodder for tense storytelling.
>>>>>>
The usual storytelling loop involves a familiar character being reintroduced and your positive feelings towards him/her are strengthened, then the character is killed off. That's Herschel. Not only was he the most expendable character from a narrative standpoint; They also blatantly advertised that he would be dead in the last episode.
>>>>>>
The production/writing team chose to waste time with a backstory for the governor. It stands to reason that they will find a way to continue to waste time on backstorys for some of these people as well. ie how the group survives?
The governor appeared to have been stabbed at his Xyphoid Process, under the sternum. I'm not a doctor so I have no idea what type of damage that would do, but it is under the heart, and between the lungs. It's also in front of the spinal column. Michonne stabbed him there to incapacitate him for the zombies. I have no reasonable explanation for why they wasted time on his backstory only to immediately kill him off.
Whether Lilly killed the governor in an honor killing or whether she killed him to save him from being devoured by zombies is unclear, but I believe it is the former. If she survives from some a ridiculous dumb luck, her survivability as a character new to the road will be affirmed. I should expect her to reunite with Tara like Andrea and Amy. Maybe, since Meghan is dead Tara or Lilly picked up Judith??? That would be the easiest collateral to buy their way into the group, but I should be happier if everyone just dies finally. It also wouldn't explain the blood, but hey, AMC.

To be honest, I am thinking the Gov's backstory may have been mainly to introduce the two new characters. So that was Lilly who shot him? For some reason, I was thinking it had been Maggie.

They're very similar looking. That was a tense episode, who was actually on the bus apart from Glenn? Just a ton of extras?
Everyone split up gives plenty of story potential for the writers - February is too long a wait though.
Best episode of the show yet.

Best episode of the season. I am still of the opinion that all of the best episodes happened in season 1.
Yes it does. I expect them to meet up again with an episode or two to spare but at some point around when they do, Daryl is going to find out about Carol.
Wasn't Tyreese's sister also on the bus?

I think the Governor may still be alive
They did not show him being shot, but they did cut away to the pawn....There's a reason for that

He has been confirmed as dead by the show's writer. Also, that sword wound would have paralysed him if he was still alive.

Daryl got told about Carol. He was bothered but ultimately accepted it, they were going to tell Tyrese but he was never told, we also never found out who was feeding the walkers rats. One of the split groups is no doubt going to bump into Carol at some point which will generate some tension.

My bets are on Tyrese and the children of the corn (can't remember who coined that for them in this thread but I like it) being the ones to find Carol, her having to tell Tyrese what happened to explain why she wasnt there for the shootout and then the kids killing Tyrese to protect Carol.

I am pretty sure that Rick only told Daryl that "she was safe" and that he would explain later. I am pretty sure the reason it was Daryl and Tyreese who were there at that moment when Tyreese was talking about a psychopath was because they are the last two people in the main group not to know and the two that will have the most extreme reactions to the news.

I think you're wrong on that, he told Daryl, they went to see Tyrese who led them through a room at pace. Daryl and Rick were there, Tyrese said I bet this is the same person that killed those 2 peeps, Rick said I don't think so, Tyrese said 'Why?' but explosion interrupted the conversation.

Just rewatched the end of Episode 5. He didn't tell Daryl. They even made a point of it where Carl asks Rick if he wants help:
Rick: I've got to go talk to Daryl.
Carl: Right now?
Rick: (pauses) No. Soon. (quieter) Soon.
Daryl likewise has the chance to ask Herschel what happened and Herschel deflects it onto Rick.
