That's cheating, you can only choose five, you said it yourself.

It doesnt say that he will name more it says that we can name more.
You should change the title of this thread to "My top 7 guitarists"

As a bassist, I know that electric guitar players are all basically posers. lol
Here's a list for bass guitar:
1. Jaco Pastorius
2. Charlie Mingus
3. John Paul Jones
4. Tony Levin
5. Paul McCartney
6. Bootsy Collins
7. Victor Wooten
8. Flea
9. John Entwhistle
10. Larry Graham
I should add a special shout out to Sid Vicious in case johnnyrotten happens upon this thread

There's no question that Flea's a great player and a great musician but I just don't find his playing as innovative as a lot of the others in the list. However, he does something interesting in every ChiliPeppers tune and you can't knock his passion - I believe he literally leaves his blood on the stage at every show from playing so hard. My numbering was pretty arbitrary anyway.

haha, you're totally right, I just saw the eye candy. The post title, the numbers and names... hehe

1- Eddie Van Halen
2- Lynsay Buckingham (very under rated)
3- Joe Perry
4-Joe Walsh (old school, and can kiss your ass)
5- my daughter, emily. (Cause she's cute, and can play five chords!)

1. John Williams (Andres Segovia's protegé, not the film composer) - the best living guitarist.
2. Jimi Hendrix - technically not as good as the others on this list, but amazing passion and sound to his playing.
3. Bert Janch - technically brilliant and a massive inspiration to Jimmy Page (loads of his riffs were lifted from Janch)
4. David Gilmour - Pink Floyd, say no more.
5. Frank Zappa - the man's a genius.
other favourites include;
Peter Green
Django Reinhart
Andres Segovia
Ry Cooder
Joe Walsh
Buddy Guy
John Squire
Tom Morello
Jimmy Page

Sid Vicious is the epitome of poser. He didn't even play bass for the sex pistols he stood up there and looked pretty. They mostly had another bassist playing in the background and in recordings.

how can you possibly have a best bassist list and not have Les Claypool on it. that's insane. its between Les and Flea for greatest. you've got some other good ones on the list like Entwhistle & John paul Jones. But McCartney, really? sure he could write songs but the only beattle who was great at playing them was George Harrison imo.
for regular guitar the real list goes something like:
1)Jimmy Page
2)Jimi Hendrix
3)Robert Johnson
4)Eric Clapton
5)Curt Kirkwood
honarary mention to Frusciante
