Well I would put my avatar up from my other site but I'm afraid with my user name it would cause some confusion and wouldn't be very fitting....

There would be no need for me to lie, despite my reputation I actually tell the truth quite often really... and I did tell the truth.... however you are right there was a bit of word play on my part, I did tell a statement that made my beheading an impossibility... because my statement was quite valid no one could dispute it... what was my statement ;)

What the bet was over had nothing do with the wager (my head), I simply wagered my head because I knew I could talk my way out of losing it should I lose the bet ... I am not the headless horseman or Hydra.

Much to my dismay I lost the bet. Yet I didn't lose my head.

What did I do to prevent the loss of my head?

Hint: I did not kill the imp and for those who will ask no the
imp didn't have a sudden change of heart, he was actually
very upset about not getting a chance at beheading me.

I know who it is, and I know how he managed to save his neck.

Ok I'll take your word for it, do you want to say the answer now or do you want to wait and have fun with more guesses? Your call

Without saying much there is a solid answer and no other can possibly do (I will explain why once the answer is revealed, though I'm sure the answer will explain all) as I am sure MeDeFe knows... were I betting real money than my money says that he knows what the real answer is...

I have a new found love for this riddle as it will debunk the "there is always more then one possible answer for every riddle" arguement.

Here's one

I am one of very few, perhaps the only one, to look like what I represent. What am I?

For the bloody imp, I'll go with something along the lines of the Merchant of Venice and for the second, a constellation, I can't remember which one actually looks like the thing it represents.

Not the only one (unless you use a submarine every day)

clever idea as always but not quite...

here's a hint... its a word that, when spelled out, looks like what it is... (I wrote this w/o caffeine so hopefully that makes enough gramatical sense  )

A king decided to let a prisoner try to escape the prison with his life.
The king placed 2 marbles in a jar that was glued to a table.
One of the marbles was supposed to be black, and one was supposed
to be blue. If the prisoner could pick the blue marble,
he would escape the prison with his life. If he picked the black marble,
he would be executed. However, the king was very mean,
and he wickedly placed 2 black marbles in the jars and no blue marbles.
The prisoner witnessed the king only putting 2 black marbles
in the jars. If the jar was not see-through and the jar was glued to the
table and that the prisoner was mute so he could not say anything,
how did he escape with his life?

Does he say something along the lines of "I choose jar A, and to prove I should not die I will take the death marble from jar B, therefore as there is one blue and one black and I chose the one that is not this black one here from jar B, the one I chose must be blue and I don't need to take it out of jar A to prove it"?

Edit - meh forget that he's mute - back to the drawing board

I kinda forgot about this thread and didn't think I'd have to spell it out. Besides, I sort of did say how the person in question managed to save himself.

"I know who it is, and I know how he managed to save his neck."

It really boils down to "ok, you can have the head, but you're not allowed to damage my neck." After much debate the other gods decided that he had a point and since no way of removing the head without damaging the neck could be devised, Loki got away with it.

IIRC it was after shaved Thor's wife's head while she was asleep (for the lulz) and had to get some damn nice presents to apologize. He got them but on his way back he came across some dwarf who was working and just had to go "I bet you can't make anything better than what I've got here".
You can pretty much figure out the rest from what's been said so far.

so he wagered his head on the condition that his neck not be damaged? :|

could've just frozen him and removed the head via laser or something
