A good offense is always a big bonus...
the pass scores points & the rush burns clock
but a great DEFENSE wins Championships.

I guess defense won championships sometime in the 2000s (the Trent Dilfer Ravens, for example or the Jim McMahon Bears in the 1980s), but seriously... think about post-1970s dynasties. 49ers, Cowboys, Patriots. All offensive oriented teams.

Not to mention the Bears over much of the 2000s have been a reasonably strong defensive team but half the time they don't even compete for a playoff spot.

A great defense won't win a championship but a bad defense will lose one.

Yeah, if you look at the Pats in the 2000's, they won because their defense was good, they had a solid running game, and had a hall of fame clutch kicker; not because Brady was dominant. He was more of a game manager at that time.

My definition of defense winning championships is more along the lines of having them do something specific very well, and capitalizing on that; i.e. the Giants had teams that could pass rush, the Saints and Packers were good at generating turnovers the years they won. The defense doesn't have to be great to win in the post season, but it at least has to show up since most teams that enter the SB are offensively competent.

Yup. Very happy that we finally have an offensive minded head coach, maybe now we can start work on putting a modern NFL contender together.

So I watch the lowlights of that game last night when I woke up, New England is lucky they've had such and inept division for so long. The jets will be battling with the raiders and jaguars for the top draft choice at his rate.

A bunch of good ones today,
get your picks in.

Just realized a little while ago that Kansas City
has Andy Reid and Alex Smith now.

Week One is like finally getting a good meal after going hungry for a few days. Week Two is when it sets in that you aren't starving any more. I missed the football season.

It's not a full moon but Week 2 was nuts
with only Green Bay, Denver & Seattle
winning decisively.

Not another!

Living 2 hours away from Denver, all I hear is "Manning this!" and "Broncos that!" And "If Peyton Manning threw 7 touchdowns every game, he would break so-and-so's record!" Every. Single. Day.
"Eh, whatever."

I think you'd like the Seahawks. They're the toughest team in the league.

I want to see how Seatle does away from home before I give them any title like that.
