Re: espionage spoils
I think this would open up a lot of fun and unique gameplay. Got my support.

i was thinking that they would yes
Some major scope for surprise attacks if your team mates have stacked on your spoils and you play the set.
The more I think about it, the more I like this idea
Re: espionage spoils
it wouldnt matter if you took over your team mates spoils (at least it shouldn't in theory)

Re: espionage spoils
Sorry there is something i d like to be clarified; say you are green you trade sao paolo red 7 becomes green 7 or green 1?
This could be hell of crazy. It sounds fun but maybe it should be tried out in beta before? This sounds like a super hardcore nukes mode, with an effect twice as lethal. I think it could work!

quads game and all 4 of your team have stacks on the border with the other team
You have the 3 spoils that cover the territs your team mates have stacks on.
You play your spoils and suddenly have a shit load of troops on the front line to rampage with that turn
Fun!
Objective games could suddenly be won with one player jumping nearer courtesy of a team mates territory.
Possibilities are endless
Re: Ninja Spoils/Espionage Spoils
Turncoat spoils,
Defector spoils,
Deserter spoils
Defector spoils,
Deserter spoils
Re: Ninja Spoils/Espionage Spoils
I think the Ninja/Espionage name comes from those of us who still consider the Civilization games to be the epicenter of gamedom.

my idea was that you took over whatever stack was there so in this case it would become green 7

Re: Ninja Spoils/Espionage Spoils
plurple, you already got my support for this great idea.
Espionage spoils
I really cannot think of a bad way to play this. Also, the last thing to support this is it would mean a brand new medal coming out.
Espionage spoils
- I love this name over any other supported. Whilst the names or turncoat or traitor are nice, they would fit the player losing the troops more than you gaining them. Espionage spoils gives us the idea of the French Resistance in world war 2. A small band able to do far more damage than their size war warranted.
- Again I am going with the idea of you getting what is on the cards you cash in. This goes along with what we already have from all spoils. With nuke games, all troops are eliminated, this would just be that. Also, how can you attack with only three troops. If you manage to take a stack, you can do far more damage.
- The ideas for a new strategy have already started. From attacking behind the lines when you cash in to using team mates stacks to rampage over the rest.

... with the little spy from Stratego
I think this is a really cool idea and agree with your points above Koontz.
I voted for the "take all armies" option for the reasons that have been mentioned. That vote is neck-and-neck (I actually broke the tie at 28 apiece with my vote).

although i like the concept the name is off.
Espionage or spying involves a government or individual obtaining information considered secret or confidential without the permission of the holder of the information.
so Espionage spoils would allow you to see how many troops are on the territory of the spoil you cashed (only effective during Fog games). that is not what is being suggested here.
this suggestion is about turning some (3) or all troops to your side.
A turncoat is a person who shifts allegiance from one loyalty or ideal to another, betraying or deserting an original cause by switching to the opposing side or party.

Re: Ninja Spoils/Espionage Spoils
As a frenchman, I can tell you that the first thing I thought of when I saw the title was what greenoaks is describing. Basically a territory revealed in a fog game. It litterally means "spying". How about brainwashing spoils? Lol
That could be another one actually... Each time you trade you reveal the entire fog of war (just 1 territory would be useless).

Espionage
Turncoat is OK, but sounds and is very old fashioned. Espionage, whilst the description above is correct, it is what the French resistance was up to as well as blowing up things. Espionage is best done when infiltrating the enemies ranks, it fits, and then later on you find dissidents that can help, followed by sabotage when needed.
When you cash in and only one troop is there, you end up getting to see what is around that region, even if you do not take full advantage of it by deploying troops there (spying), if you get a stack (turning dissidents), you can go on and attack (sabotage).

so is that the english meaning of the french word "espionage"? because in french it strictly means spying. and an "espion" is a spy. I might be biaised knowing the real meaning of the word, but sounds strange to me in this context. Although a spy's job can indeed include the activities you mentioned.
How about "revolution", "desertion", "worshipping spell" or something like that?

this suggestion is not for receiving a terit with 1 troop. you did not blow anything up. it is you get all armies there. in other words the troops turned their coats (of arms) from one lord to another (ie from Red to Green), hence Turncoat is more appropriate than a term which means spied upon.

"Spying" not spied upon, that would be "espionné". I think you can take my word on that one.
But yes turncoat is much more apropriate.

but this just makes me think that the spoils themselves will turncoat on you as the names normally describe what the spoil does not what it forces the territories to do. maybe i just don't like the word turncoat
so are we now just arguing over what it should be called?

that works for me. Nukes nuke the terit to 1, Turncoat turns their coat to your colour. how's this?
cashing spoils forces any territory you don't own to Turncoat. all troops on that terit are now yours. territories you possess are unaffected.

Some more options for a name as I am not a fan of turncoat, but lets not argue over a name. The idea itself is a great one and would make life a lot of fun.
defector, betrayer, deserter, judas, rebel, renegade, spy, treason.

the name is all that is left
spy and treason won't work for the same reason espionage won't. judas i'd avoid for religious reasons. betrayer is a judas without the religious connotations but still doesn't imply ownership of a region's military.
the image rebel & renegade give is of someone working independent against the current system. a deserter is someone who flees battle.
that leaves defector - someone who seeks protection within their enemy's region
Turncoat is what this suggestion is. A spoil where the troops change allegiance to their new master.
